Fun car to improve on...
Discussion
So. Having the decisive ability of precisely zero, i'm looking for advice.
I'll make it simple,
Budget circa £5,000. RWD, manual, convertible.
Current shortlist is Mk1,2 or 3 MX5. Z3 3.0, Z4 6 cyl, 350Z.
Will be used initially as a daily but relegated to 2nd car duties next year. Also looking to improve on the base car and maybe do the odd track day but not going to be a track toy.
Go!!!

I have had 3 from your list.
Mk2 MX5 mk 2.5 - great drive and great mechanically, they are all rotten unless it has been sorted.
Z3 2.8 - Felt solid, not a particularity sporty drive, too heavy, more a cruiser than a sports car. Felt very old and dated once I had the Z4.
Z4 3.0 - Again, heavy and not a particularly sporty drive but lovely looking car, engine noise fantastic and easily my favourite of the 3 by miles (good mpg as well surprisingly!)
350z would me my pick but only because I have yet to own one, would have another z4 too.
