La Nonna in the doorway is enjoying La Bella Signorina's exchange of colourful language with Il Postino. It reminds her of her days working at Salon Go Go back in the late 40s. She insists that Gianni Agnelli and Aurelio Lampredi once hired her and her friend Cata for a double or quits sesh, but her family discount this as just another of Nonna's stories.P5BNij said:
Lovely lovely car. An Italian neighbour had one many years ago and I wanted it so much but I never got to scratch that itch. I've like Lancia's ever since and if I had the funds an Intergrale and Montecarlo would be in the garage. I'd like to see more of the gold Gamma too.

The junior Carabinieri is admonishing the English driver for going the wrong way down the Senso Unico (one way street), and probably all the more aggrieved at the comparison between the Lancia and his own means of transport. And maybe a hint of jealousy over the tanned, fragrant passenger.

That, along with other evidence, makes me suspect that "Milano" in that pic is a lot somewhere near Pinner, and that the structure of La Casa Nonna is about as substantial and is as much made of cardboard as the wheel arches on my old Beta 1300 Coupe.
Hmm, not so sure about Pinner, it has distinct echoes of Neasden about it. Funny place Neasden. Not quite as bad as the grubby bit of Battersea where I'm sat as I type this though, surrounded by weeds, grafitti and railway arches. Bloody lovely pic, wherever it is, those '70s car ads have a certain air about them, especially the Italian ones.

I think that you are on the right track (or is it railway arch?) there. The jaunty angle of the cyclist's cap is another giveaway, in Italy even the traffic wardens are as immaculately turned out as the Monaco Palace Guard.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
