Dry sump pump fitted .
The belt is sitting a bit too close to the steering rack mounting so the mounting will need to be modified. This is the first part of the chassis that has had to be modified. Pretty amazing really if you consider how different it is compared to its original intended use .

Oil pump/dry sump fittings all blasted and polished .
Part of the ambition behind the car was to build a fast car on a budget using old style skills and without electronic trickery .Old Fred in his shed from the 70s and 80s

Yes Ranger , it's being modified for a customer and will have a similar carb set up as the 2CV8 . Road legal too .

On the left is a normal V8 sump, on the right is a Pinto dry sump . The next step is fabrication of a version of the R/H sump to fit the V8 .
For those that don't know the dry sump system offers many advantages over a normal wet sump . One of those is to allow the engine to sit lower in the chassis, this helps with lowering the centre of gravity . Dry sumps also help prevent the oil surge that happens with a wet sump especially with the high cornering speeds of a race machine .

Thanks - just scouted FB and saw the pics, very nice!

Do you think if I pulled a 'Tim Shaw' from Car SOS and turned up with the bits of my 3.9 that they'd build it for me laugh

The dry sump is done .
Time to pull the engine and start the race build .
Peter is having a visit from someone from a camshaft manufacturer next week so hopefully something interesting should be forthcoming. He is looking for cams for various builds also , road E type ,race E type, Rover V8 , XJ40 and XJR supercharged .

The bonnet is now in a local paint shop , rear wings soon to follow .
The guy that does all Peter's vinyl has been over ,his premises are about 50m away , to get some ideas about the layout.

Drivers door release had to be modified as the standard version fouled on the rollcage.

With the bonnet now in primer you get a true idea of how wide it is . With luck it should be in colour by the weekend.

A few black highlights and the apertures for the brake cooling ducts have been cut . The paint is being given some time to fully harden then the bonnet will get flipped over for some extra fibreglass strengthening.
