Certainly looks possible to engineer space for a space saver. I'd recommend going to view an F31 and seeing for yourself but if I absolutely needed a space saver I could definitely figure out a way to make it happen without interrupting existing boot space

Thread Update,

Front brake pads are due in 430 miles – will get front pads and sensor ordered from BMW main dealer. I did mention previously in my thread that I would consider upgrading to DS2500 pads with braided hoses on OEM disks – at the time of writing I believe this modification is complete overkill for the application of the car. It is a daily driver after all …

Been on the fence long enough about a remap. I shortlisted the tuners following hours & hours of research, DM’ing /stalking high mileage 35d owners …

GKR Performance
BW Chiptune
Unicorn Motor Developments
DMS Automotive

After much deliberation, umm’ing & arr’ing I have decided to go with a STAGE 1 remap courtesy of Unicorn Motor Developments. This will be a custom remap on a completely stock car. Uprating the intercooler and going for a STAGE 1 + did cross my mind. Intercooler of choice would have been the Wagner Evo 2 Competition but for me the way the car is used it would be overkill.

I have a genuine BMW OEM air filter sitting in the garage which I’ll replace the old one with the night before travelling to Unicorn Motor Developments.

Great thread and the car looks/sounds great! How are you getting along with keeping the Opal White Merino leather clean?

For some insurers, upgrading to braided hoses is a declarable modification. I did a comparison site search for car insurance and was surprised to see that as modification that was asked. Some reports also say it can make brakes too ‘grabby’.

You could add a (properly secured) spare/space saver on top of the rear floor sheet metal. Replacing the sheet metal would compromise all sorts of attributes; crash, rigidity, noise absorption, etc.

Thanks for the replies, the lack of space saver really is an issue for me, going up Snowdonia region or remote roads and having issues means I do not want to be stuck for hours again waiting for Rescue services as tyre gunk comes out quicker than it goes in!
I live in Snowdonia, the lack of a space saver is not an issue (but I do have run-flats), and Snowdonia cannot by any stretch be called ‘remote’.

Applied Gyeon - Q² Leather Shield to the car when I got it. Every couple of weeks I wipe the seats down using leather cleaning wipes takes 5/10 minutes. Not bad to be honest ... I'll be honest I expected white leather ownership to be far worse biggrin

I think insurers should bring insurance premiums down for those with uprated brakes biggrin ... on a serious note yes absolutely agree its best to declare all the mods to ensure insurance companies can't wiggle their way out of paying for a claim.

I have just advertised it for sale too, See if I can get any bites
Ha. I thought this looked familiar. I’ve just stuck a ticket on this on Dream Car Giveaways.

Apparently running a stage 2 remap (whatever that means?) and 390bhp. Impressive for a diesel.

I won't use DS2500's again. The amount of brake dust generated was huge, i could live with that, it was the poor cold performance that was an issue for me. A spell on a cold motorway with little braking then suddenly needing to brake more firmly and just don't don't bite well, very disconcerting.

I found yellow stuffs were a nice upgrade on standard disks, for a mild upgrade with no downside these proved superb. I also fitted braided hoses and good fluid. I've fitted braided hoses to many cars now and never noticed "grabiness" mentioned above.

Compared to most of the UK it is remote (some areas more than others) , or at least more difficult in some areas to get breakdown services out. I've had two tyre punctures that neither run flats or tyre can would cope with, plus i don't want run flats ruining a ride. When you add in losing half a day off work waiting for breakdown services, going to a tyre place that doesn't have a matched tyre you need, etc, then a space saver to me makes much more sense.

Quite a turn of events since the last update not long ago! Spoke to a lovely chap called Matthew Carter at MTC Motorsport this morning … long story short I asked him to send out an intercooler. So much for STAGE 1 + being overkill and Wagner Evo 2 Competition being my choice of intercooler…

Choice of 2 colours – SILVER or BLACK. Went with the latter

Probably by email. I've been trying the phone all week. Just goes to voice mail. He's not showing as closed so maybe just really busy at the moment.
