The appointment with Customs last Friday resulted in the usual outcome of man versus European bureaucracy, i.e. teeth-gnashing frustration.

I now need a different piece of paper to prove that the car was in Lux before end-Dec 2020. Once I have that, I am assured all will be well. We'll see.

Oh the naive optimism of a few weeks ago; oh the simplicity. Of course all was not well.

I was left waiting for 15 minutes by a dolt of a woman with a serious attitude problem, only for her to come back with a 'computer says no' smirk and direct me to a different office, in a very different part of the city. The supervisor that came with her merely shrugged with barely concealed disdain as I explained yet again that I had provided the paperwork requested by their colleague just a couple of weeks ago. Customer service is sometimes an alien concept here, and I was left in a state of incandescent fury against Brexit and all it stands for, as well as the job-for-life mentality of an unimaginative bureaucrat. So, back to square one, but only once I've calmed down a bit and am no longer considering setting light to the fking thing.

On the positive side, the lady in the petrol station was very complimentary about the car, and I think there was something approaching a cheeky twinkle in her eye as she looked at the screen showing my car. Nice to know I can still charm some women, even if she was in her late 60s. If only the lumpen aparatchik had been similarly wowed.

All in all, a bit of a waste of a day off, although I did get my grass cut; silver linings and all that.
Even though the word Customs is contained within Customer Service, "Douanes et Accices" in Lux seem to possess more than a number of a particular breed of special wkers, IME. I feel for you.
How can you prove the car was here before December? An old garage invoice, perhaps? (Then they'll want to know why you didn't go to Customs before your 6 months were up?!.....)

(O/T: I went to get my "non EU" Carte de Séjour today as it's time limited for applications until 30/06/2021. I felt it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it in the future! Another Brexit ball-ache. rolleyes )

I'm leaning towards the incorrect bad boy black/orange/red Abarth centres. Would look great with the Cromodora 68 wheels.

The new style Abarth centres are an absolute non in any circumstance. The older style too as Abarth didn’t use them with your Cromodora rims, Fiat centres for you. (If however you had cd30s on your Fiat, then older style Abarth centres are fine, as they look great on mine, even though it’s a Fiat not an Abarth.)
Hope that’s very clear

Your car isn't an Abarth, so surely the centres have to be Fiat ones!

Thanks for the wheel centre advice chaps. Some good options there, albeit some at a punchy price.
Once I have (finally) crossed the Customs hurdle I'll get ordering. I do very much prefer the old-fashioned and retro styles.

Noticed recently that actually two are missing, so I'll definitely replace the lot with something more authentic.

It's listed as "voiture de collection trés belle", and if you've not moved, I'm pretty sure it's really in your manor.
I can't get a simple weblink from my stty old iPad. laugh Soz! smile

If you have Safari on your iPad you can click on the little square with an upward arrow at the top right hand and that gives you the option to copy the link. HTH.

I noticed today that that design is on the horn button on the steering wheel, so might be the look to go for.

An update. Who was it that said that money makes the world go round?

An interim appointment with a bunch of folk that took some post-BREXIT VAT off me, plus a generous service charge of course, resulted in this:

Having swallowed my angst, paying that hefty bill then resulted in the long-awaited Vignette 705.

I said before to a pal, once I'd decided not to burn the car in the Customs car park, that I was prepared to throw money at it to get it sorted. Infuriating though it is, at least a major bureaucratic hurdle is now crossed.

I go on holiday tomorrow but the car will go back to the garagiste in 10 days to get the MOT equivalent sorted. They also need to fix an oil leak, check the possible overheating issue, and to replace the spare tyre. Once all that's done, I'll show it some love and clean it.

The Spider went back to the garage last week. Jobs include an oil leak, thermostat and a new tyre. Getting it through the CT (MOT on steroids) will be an 'interesting' test for it I think, but I'm hopeful. The other job is that a new VIN plate has to be fabricated and affixed to the chassis; the current one is on the body and that's not acceptable.

I dread to think what the final bill will be.

Applied for mine this past weekend to beat the deadline, and got confirmation that I'm 'in the system' today. I wasn't going to bother as I don't need it whilst I'm working as I have diplomatic status, but it was pointed out that if I want to stay in the EU after retirement it will be useful.

Have you started your new job yet? Hope all is going well.
