Subaru Legacy tuned by STI

That's a useful saving, i was comparing the weight of my OEM calipers to brembos at the weekend and i was suprised how light the brembos were.
So compared to my 3.0, you've got lighter alloy arms, discs, wheels and calipers. 7kg+ less unsprung mass per corner? Must make a huge difference.

Great thread and lovely looking car. Currently considering chopping in my derv Passat for something with a bit more go. Been eyeing up the TBSTI or a Forester STI. Imagine this would be more refined than a Forester and maybe slightly more economical with it being 2.0l rather than 2.5l.
300 odd after a remap sounds like it could be a bit more of a wolf in sheep's clothing and fly a bit more under the radar than a Fozzy.

It's totally different to the Forester STI I had. Much smother and refined. Interior and finish is much better too. You don't notice to build up of speed and there's virtually no noise at all from the twin scroll turbo. So if you want the Subaru burble, you'll have to opt for the Forester instead.

Can I ask how they compare on interior space? Im coming from a Passat estate and both feel like a compromise on space however I feel like the Forester woul be slightly larger. I've an older WRX for my burble fixes during the summer. I think you'll find the Forester a bit more roomy on the inside. This could just be down to the roof height though. I don't actually think there's much (if at all) leg room front or back, just that it feels bigger due to having a taller roof and more glass.
Not been in a Passat for years now so can't compare it to what you have. It's getting expensive now for fresh imports. Worth checking for one that is already here first. I was probably a year or two too late grabbing a bargain over in Japan. But the way things are at the moment, happy to have bought it.

Agree with you there. I wanted a Forester STI a few years back but didn't pull the trigger. Now they are definitely more expensive. I've got my eye on one of each, heart says Forester but head says Legacy. Whilst I don't do as many miles as I used to, the Legacy has cruise (I believe) which would make the longer family trips easier.
Will keep you posted on what I choose. Thanks for the information as well.

Good luck finding a JDM Legacy with cruise. 99.9% of JDM ones don't have it (or a sunroof, or leather). Is it twin scroll you've seen, or is it a UK car? Will keep you posted on what I choose. Thanks for the information as well.
The facelift will have buttons on the right hand side of the steering wheel if it has cruise. See my wheel with them missing.

What a lovely pair!To help with the query above about space, we ran a Forester and a Liberty of these varieties side-by-side for a while, with three kids in child seats.
The Lib could just about fit all three seats across, whereas the Forester was too narrow. Might not be too much in it for rear legroom but the front was more spacious. The extra body length was also notable in the boot.
And, as already noted, the Lib was just a nicer place to spend time. If the kids hadn’t kept growing, I don’t think I’d have ever sold my 05 GT wagon - complete as it was with leather, sunroof, and cruise…D
Its a recently landed import that I've seen advertised, yet to actually see it in the flesh though. See what you mean about cruise, I thought it was a given but its just been confirmed back to me that it doesn't have it. Not a deal breaker really, but does make me swing back towards the FSTI.

A FSTI won't have cruise on it either. Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
