They seem to suggest that it is a special that uses the inner surface of the outer hub as the outer race of the bearing.
I did wonder if that was likely the issue, given the hub design......if it's grumbling then it's probably already damaged the face in some small way, but hopefully SKF can offer a solution.

I know on my Audi S5 I worry about the quattro sports diff, as failed bearings in that basically require a complete new diff! They have 'unique' tapered bearings that apparently can't be replaced (and I suspect by the time the diff cries 'enough' it's likely done significant internal damage anyway, meaning new bearings wouldn't resolve it)

Thank you, yes I saw that one, along with a 355 query from 2005 that was still going strong in 2016 with no solution.

Looks like I’m paying £1k for a wheel bearing pending responses to various online companies, garages and SKF themselves

You could ask or look on Ferrari Chat in the 456 forum:

But the omens don't look very good I'm afraid. They seem to suggest that it is a special that uses the inner surface of the outer hub as the outer race of the bearing.
I would say, from the picture only, that the inner ring of the bearing and the wheel nut "thread plate" is only one piece.... Nice engineering! Not for maintenance/wallet...

Nice car! They look timeless chic and elegant to me smile

Afternoon, quick update on the old girl :-)

Still enjoying the car, although not sure how much longer I can justify keeping her with a house build going on that is consuming everything.

Anyway, my car will be at the Goodwood Sunday Breakfast this weekend - will stick some pictures here https://www.instagram.com/fast_german/

Slightly off topic, a friend of mine has pointed me in the direction of the ZF 8HP gearbox for a retrofit option. If you Google 'ZF 8HP retrofit' you can see forums for E36, E46 and E90 BMW's, Range Rover etc. Could be an interesting option. Here's a kit for a 90's Toyota Supra for info - https://www.garagewhifbitz.co.uk/garage-whifbitz-z...

Glad to hear you've got to a few meets this year - sadly will miss this Sunday's breakfast.

DId you get the wheel bearing fixed or in the works? Is the propsect of similar four figures service items contributing to the potentail disposal of this incredbly green asset?

Yes good to make some events this year - went to Members Meeting 79 a couple of weeks ago also.

Only thing to be fixed at the moment is an intermittent locking issue on the drivers side. I can lock and engage the alarm but have to get in the passenger side and open the drivers door to get where I want to be :-)

Buonasera..

You may have noticed the cheapest Ferrari for sale on Pistonheads right now.

Need some help with some detective work after trying the usual suspects. I have MOT history only 2006 to 2012:

WJ Taylor and Sons, Oxford - 2006
County Garage, Glasgow - 2007
Douglas Park, Glasgow - 2009
Calder Road Garage, Glasgow - 2010
Nass-Tech Autos, Leicester - 2011

Chassis number - 108335
Reg - P16MRB to 2006, CON377A to 2010, P343HBC from 2011

If anyone knows any magic databases I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Ps reason for sale attached

Agree, the ad makes a good case for it being a sensible purchase smile

Maybe worth adding an engine bay shot or two? After all, you know what they say about buying a Ferrari...

Thanks guys :-)

Yes sorry to be selling and will have a picture change around soon I think. Picture 3 has an engine bay shot but a bit far away.

Cheers

To conclude the thread - she has sold for the asking price after an inspection at SMDG.

An absolute ball ache selling the car, worst ever but has gone to a great home! Excited for the new owner to enjoy the car with his family including 2 young kids.

In hindsight the car would have gone to Collecting Cars.
