Rolling the electrified dice. 2020 MG ZS EV Exclusive
Discussion
To the OP..if/when you get to do a long motorway run I would be intrigued to know the real world range.
I do a regular (every 3-4 weeks) trip from around Dartford tunnel to Hull so M25, M11, A1, M62
I tend to leave around 4am to miss the traffic and means I can set the cruise at 74 mph and generally keep a good speed. One pee/coffee stop and jobs done at around 200 miles
YT videos seem to mostly show people doing 60-65mph in their MG on he motorway which is slower than my ideal, stuck amongst the trucks.
Better for electric mileage but not how I drive, so question is what mileage would I really get on a dark, wet motorway trip with lights, wipers and air con (to demist)? For these trips electric may not be ideal, but rest of time I am mostly doing around 30miles a day locally, for which electric would be igreat

Good read
My local MG dealer is doing these £248 deposit and £249 a month for 3 years I think it is. Would be a no brainer for most people who do their driving locally with the occasional trip further afield( aka 85% of people) and more than likely 100% of people who would be looking at a MG or any other car in this class really.
I would have one, I’m trying to convince my work to let me trial a transit PHEV.

That sounds very cheap - the deposit might be higher than you think. My local MG dealer is doing these £248 deposit and £249 a month for 3 years I think it is. Would you mind expanding on the maths behind that comparison, please?
We’ve been looking and I understood elec cost would be roughly a quarter of diesel cost.
£250 diesel at 50mpg and £1.20/l = 2300 milesWe’ve been looking and I understood elec cost would be roughly a quarter of diesel cost.
2300 miles at 4 miles per kWh and 5p/kWh = £29
Looks like that's only available for 4 hours - so 28kWh? Likely more than enough for the vast majority of users but does make it more likely you'd want to be sticking it on charge often rather than every few days.

Thanks - it's the 5p/kWh that's vital, I guess. Even at E7 rates you'd be over the quarter.

Most people with an EV and home charger plug in every night - those with off street parking anyway. Looks like that's only available for 4 hours - so 28kWh? Toasterpilot hows life with the MG. I am dipping my toe in the EV pond this week with a 48 hr Corsa e test drive. I’m tempted by one of these though. What’s it like?
It's going well so far, about 500 miles in and apart from the odd trim rattle which I'll get looked at in due course, it's been brilliant so far. Far more car for your money than the Corsa E although I do believe the Corsa adds a bit more range if you can live with the reduced size and increased cost! I've rambled into a camera a bit about it - I plan to cover it in more detail going forward. Keen for suggestions of things that are of interest / questions people have from hearing Internet heroes talk about a car they've never seen nor driven (or over-enthusiastic owners who, equally badly, make out that it has no flaws whatsoever!)
Just looked at my rate and it’s 12.4pp kw. Not ideal but that’s still only £6.10 to fully charge from empty. Something like the e 208 at about 200 miles for that equates to £0.0305ppm.
In my van that does 45mpg and say diesel at £4.459 a gallon the same 200 miles would cost £19.81 or £0.09 ppm. The difference is 3 x the price than pure EV. This can also be represented by £1981.00pa against £600.00 pa based on 20,000 miles. That’s before you consider special EV tariffs at 5p per KW which would be £250 pa.
The summary for me is that I could save as much as £144.25 per month running an EV. However another consideration I have is do I buy a very nice Fiesta Vignale diesel for £12600.00 with 75mpg possible. This would cost £1189.06 pa to run so about £0.05ppm or £11.89 (per 200 miles).
As an old uncle used to say “you pays your money, you make your choice”.

Good video TP, Enjoyed that and I like your honest appraisal and your delivery. I will let you know how the next 48 hrs of EV life pan out for me and hopefully I’m as open minded as Ibelieve myself to be. One last thing, if I said Kingsway, Gloucester I wouldn’t be far off would I?
Keen eye - I don't live in that part of Gloucester but I drove that way in the video when heading towards the M5 Good luck with the test drive - keen to hear more about the Corsa E!
