It was actually what BMW planned to do, according to mag reports back in 2000, but they changed to the 2.5 then for some reason.
While I always enjoyed the performance of mine, it would have been even nicer with an extra 40hp. And maybe an LSD
Yes, I'm pretty sure I read about that too - I think BMW decided they wanted the 330Ci to be the quickest regular E46 though! While I always enjoyed the performance of mine, it would have been even nicer with an extra 40hp. And maybe an LSD
Thanks for all the replies, few updates as of the last few weeks to get the car ready to go on its first trip, heading down to newquay today for the week. Firstly as ive been so busy with work and the holiday creeping in i booked it in at my good friend and local specialist ‘ jmf autoworkx’ in great barr birmingham to have rocker cover gasket set, x6 coils, x6 plugs, oil filter housing gasket and all washers and o rings required when removing and finally the ccv valve and all hoses. Over the moon with the car now jon did a great job and thoroughly cleaned all excess oil off etc. No pics unfortunatley. Thursday i had the car in at work and checked over and gave it another oil and filter change so the engines had a good flush out. Oil crrystal clear now.
Yesterday i had the day off work so following on from the deep clean and decon a few weeks back today i gave it a machine polish and some protection. Pleased with how it came out, got rid of the haze and boosted gloss. Finished with a coat if bilt hamber double speed wax and 2 coats of garage therapy sigma. Heading down to newquay today so hopefully can get a few pics if the car on its first trip away.
Also got local dealer plates fitted. Next things on the list after holiday will be a new scuttle panel as its perishing and cracking and some new side repeaters to freshen up and also a fuel filter and pollen filter.

Just got back from a week in cornwall in the car, it performed well thankgod. Couple of tiny niggles but over all really enjoyed the car. Main issue is under load at slow speeds mainly going up a hill etc i have a knocking noise around the centre console around but seems underneath the car so ill be checking propshaft area etc. Few pics i grabbed along the way. It needs a good clean now!
Not much to update with regards to fixing/maintenance just been driving it! Obligatory bmw in snow pics. Really enjoy this car although i have an itch im thinking about scratching as in a renault megane rs 250/265. Being a tech at a renault dealership ive always wanted one and always find myself scrolling through all the ad sites looking. My first house purchase is juat going through so once thats all done im going to do some man maths.!
I went from a 265 Cup to a 130i so not a million miles away from the reverse of the switch you are thinking of!
My 130i was recently fitted with M3 arms, front camber plates and the Bilstein B12 Pro Kit so is set up pretty well. However, in comparison to my memories of the 265 Cup, it is not as instant in response or as fun. I'd definitely recommend looking more closely at the Renaults.

Been enjoying the updates and would be a shame to have the thread come to an end, but I shouldn’t think you’d struggle to shift the E46 on - I, probably like a few others who have commented, would be interested in it! Please do update the thread if/when you decide to sell the car best of luck with the house purchase too..! Chunkychucky said:

Hi mate, the 130i is another car in the line up if i changed. Seems like the next upgrade to my 325ti. I really like the 130i le’s. Have you a thread on here?My 130i was recently fitted with M3 arms, front camber plates and the Bilstein B12 Pro Kit so is set up pretty well. Really great work on the ti. Super cool having a 3l in there too, it's such a great engine. You will have some track guys biting at your heels when you come to sell that, for sure.
The Megane 265 is a superb car, so I am not surprised in the slightest that you are drawn to them. The only reason I would chose the BMW over the RS Megane is for the rear wheel drive frolics. I have a 130i at the moment and I have just fitted an LSD insert (£450 all in) and that has increased my driving enjoyment considerably! Maybe it's something to think about?
