Sorry to read this, just checked the thread and read through some epic updates with great photos. Hope you get sorted soon with a sensible insurance payout. I’ve been through similar with my wife’s Discovery so can empathise.

Awful thing to happen but it could have been much worse - just hope the insurers play ball

Thanks all. We have heard back from the police that they have no evidence, footage or witnesses so they have closed the case.

I spoke to the insurer today (we'd been on holidays last week when they called back) and they valued the car at £2k more than we bought it - not bad considering we added almost 12k miles to it in our 2 years!!

Current thinking is to buy something cheap for over the winter and see if interest rates take a bite out of sport car pricing in that time.

The payout has all made it a bit real - I had a bit of a quiet tear-up at work after I got off the phone! Thanks for the memories Rolf. clapdriving

Gutted to hear this OP! Very surprised they came looking for a 2008 R8 but I guess it'll be going to fix up a crash-damaged one somewhere frown

Really sorry and sad to see your journey with the R8 end like this. I’ve really enjoyed following your thread and look forward to seeing what replacement follows in 2023

I read this thread from start to finish and then couldn't believe the bombshell at the end! Gutted for you. The tales of your amazing journeys will be remembered forever and you can look back in happiness at your experiences. Silver lining with the insurance payout though and I hope your next car gives you as much joy.

Just read the whole thread from start to finish. Absolutely gutting. I’m so sorry for the loss of Rolf.

Was looking at you routes through the Pyrenees with interest as my gf and I rode through in October last year. A friend who we stayed with lives in Vielha which you would have travelled through to get up to the ski resort. I have very similar picture as you but with my Triumph…

Just to add to the weirdness, seeing you say a Norfolk trip, I was naturally curious being based here myself. Your in laws live a 2 minute walk from my gfs parents. Spooky!

If ever you find yourself this way again and want some Norfolk roads to explore, just shout.

I really hope you manage to get a replacement sorted for Rolf very soon. I suppose in a way, happy (unplanned) car hunting.

Might be worth keeping an eye on eBay for various easily identifiable parts :/ - if you even want to that is.

I know you'd far rather still have your R8, but at least your insurer seems to have treated you fairly.

Good luck with whatever you decide to get next. thumbup

Do you mind saying who your insurer was under written by? Definitely doesn’t sound like a tin pot company

I went from an R8 to a GT4. did your insurance settlement go smoothly enough?

Yes it did thanks. We are with LV and they were super quick and gave us a sensible number. They've insured the Cayman for an extra £100 for the remaining 10 months of the Audi's policy too!

good luck with the replacement, hopefully will bring you as many good memories as the R8.

Seeing as you have a small driveway, get a Ring doorbell or something similar along with a security camera for your back door. A cheap deterrent that might make them think twice if nothing else.

Read the whole thread over the weekend, brilliant write ups and lovely pictures. Such a shame that it ended in the theft of the RB.

On the plus side that's an excellent replacement and I hope you enjoy it as much as the R8.

Lovely! Looks like the car I have been looking at every now and then at Ashgood. It's a great spec and will be great fun.

Hopefully a happy ending - enjoy OP!
