So there we go, this is my new car which I'm pretty damn happy with right now. I think they're handsome things. I've no doubt that this has probably bored the tits off some of you, but as always I'll try to keep this thrilling readers car updated.

Just shows you what a difference a set of wheels makes. I've a lot of time for big French Estate cars (sorry 'Tourers'). Always fancied a Pug 508sw hybrid myself. That's a nice purchase and I loved the documented 'trek'. Petrolheads get it, but normal people are like 'why?' biggrin

In other news, Trainline are refunding my journey due to the cancelled train. This means my journey from Hythe to Leighton Buzzard cost a total of £2.40 (already had a ferry ticket and the car had enough fuel to get home). All I paid for was the underground bit
beer

Lovely car. I had a 3.0HDi saloon in similar spec to the OP’s. I did about 70k miles in it over 3 years and it was totally reliable. Only issues were with the 19” wheels which were easy to bend and break. Make sure you avoid potholes. From memory the tyres were expensive because of their size, and only did around 20k mainly motorway miles.

I've had mine about six years now. It has been a bit of a garage queen but I suspect it had a hard start in life. The major weakness on these is the steering rack, though a new and improved one has been introduced. I went with one of these (very expensive) replacements and the total cost of the job was over 2 grand.

The window mechanisms can play up, the cables snap. Easier to replace the whole regulator assembly, there are excellent pattern ones available. I've also had to replace the rear brake callipers as the handbrake mechanism seized up completely. Unlike any other of the hydro suspension Citroens the handbrake is now on the rear wheels.

I still think it's a fantastic car and have no plans to replace it at present.

I’m rather adverse to French cars but I do love a good looking estate and there’s something about these that just looks right.

The kit list is impressive too.

My main issue is I have a short commute so it’s petrol over diesel for me and I’d always been under the impression it’s only worth buying French estates in diesel form. Am I wrong?
I had a little look on autotrader last night and French estates in petrol format are like hens teeth. Only options are the laguna, or older 207 / 307 sizing.

Laguna GT was on my list. 4 wheel steering and a 2ltr turbo engine. Not many about tho.

I love how that screenshot not only makes it look like you had a hissy-fit (as you didn't reply initially), but also that it doesn't convey the days and days and days of endless messages crying about 'not knowing what car to buy' that passed before it!

Everybody on this thread is only getting the shopfront to this car purchase; His missus and I have been behind closed doors in the stockroom for weeks (no...wait, not like that) and I can tell you from experience, Simon's stockroom is a fking mess. It stinks, it's covered in pictures of diesel Volvos, st mountain bikes and newspaper cuttings of Sir Bradley Wiggins, on which one the words "I'm your best friend Simon" have been scrawled on wiv crayon, surrounded by little scribbles of what I can only assume to be hearts, only they more closely resemable decapitated hamsters. An image taken from his wedding day has been doctored so that the face of his wife has been replaced with that of Sir Bradley Wiggins' to insinutate that the two are socially active, in some form. The wedding dress remains.

Tool plays on torturous, torturous repeat. His poor wife sits in the corner, randomly alternating between using a redundant Subaru brake caliper retaining clip to stap a picture of his face on a balloon, and sobbing her heart out. Meanwhile, I'm in a state of paraplectic zen, dreaming about suicide.

But yes, well done Simon. You caught a train and bought a diesel estate car. Bravo. The wounds you have inflicted on your beloved and your wife will take far, far longer to heal than a diversion through Euston.

Tell you what, I’d been avoiding reading this thread since a C5 didn’t float my boat. But I’m very happy to be proven very wrong.

Looks great, sounds like you made a v good purchase. Congrats, looking forward to more pictures

Can someone explain what is going on?

Did he sneak away to buy a French fancy without the knowledge of his wife and now she's rubbled him on PH

I read it as his mate giving him a bit of stick about car related indecisiveness. All meant in good humour...

Well deserved stick from a good mate who's been on the receiving end of my indecisiveness for some time. I did historically value his opinion wink

Either that or he's annoyed that he'll have to wallow in the pit of C6 despair alone whilst I waft past in my C5 (into my own pit)

So basically yes, if it’s a French estate it’s a diesel or no nothing.

Shame as I love this but I doubt it will appreciate 4 mile commutes everyday.
