Yep, pretty much spot on.

We’d got it mapped at Quantum Tuning and showed just over 350 brake at the fly and it came out at 327 (highest of three runs) at the hubs.

Realistically I think the transmission losses should be greater than that but we were told that from previous years experience it was typically 5-10% lower than the fly figure which is what we had.

I tested the other half’s 987.2 Cayman last week after new aero (wing and 981 GT4 front bumper) and big Alcon brakes. It needs weighing, rolling roading and wrapping before the start of the season.

It doesn’t have the BHP and torque of yours, but would be fun to see the differences.

So another day out on Friday at Silverstone went well. Good pace in the dry and then mid morning it started raining which was what I was hoping for so I could see how it felt in the wet.

It was epic!

Loads of grip, stable and despite the open diff it had lots of traction off the corners as well

There’s a few things that can definitely be improved so I’m working up a development list and hopefully we can apply changes between races over the season but for now it’s all set for the first race at Donington Park two weeks today!

So in exactly one weeks time we will be on the way over to Donington Park for the first round of the MSVT SuperCup Championship woohoo

The provisional timetable shows a 25 minute quali session at 11.15am and 45 minute race at 15.25.

https://www.msvracing.com/cars/calendar/2021/apr-2...

Live timing and commentary will be on TSL here - https://www.tsl-timing.com/event/211651

I will try to update the FB and Insta pages on the day as well so please add a like/follow/share to Intelligent Money Racing on there beer

There’s no published entry list yet so I don’t know who or what I’m up against in the race but I would expect the usual selection of M3s and TCR cars in my class and there will be some seasoned campaigners in the classes below to watch for as well! I’ve no real idea where that will land us on the grid or in the race, the car seems fairly quick but it’s completely undeveloped so may be a bit off pace still against the cars that are already fully dialled in, I guess we’ll have a better idea by next Sunday lunchtime laughlaugh .

The car is pretty much set to go, the last few bits for scrutineering are done, rain lights etc.

I’m now waiting for the helmet kit for the radio and a stiffer anti roll bar to land but we can run without if they don’t get here in time.

The saga of the spare wheels continues, they took a little persuading to realise that I wasn’t trying to fit them wrongly banghead but they did agree to rush another pair through production and they were dispatched via Fedex on Thursday. You can guess what is coming can’t you? rolleyes Yep, the Fedex van arrived on Friday with one wheel on board irked. The tracking info shows there being two parcels and the other one should have landed on Friday but now has no estimated time for delivery grumpy. Multiple attempts to get through to their customer services failed as it seems they don’t actually pick up the phone in that department so we’ll see if they land tomorrow.

Out of interest, is the open diff' a necessity for the regs, or is the advantage of an LSD (or ATB?) not worth the expense, or something else maybe?

Diff is next thing on the never ending shopping list.

Because the engine is sat over the back wheels the traction is pretty impressive anyway but there will be gains to be had from having one and the regs are fine with it.

Lets say it was a good learning experience laugh.

This was always going to be a work in progress so being 3s off pole in quali wasn’t too bad but unfortunately the rest of my class have all turned out to be previous runners in the championship so I only managed 7th on the grid.

The good news was that at the start I had a decent run off the line ..........

But that was about the peak of the race for me. We’d made a few adjustments between quali and race which meant I was able to keep around my quali pace while other cars were generally losing compared to the morning run but I was still not competitive with the guys at the front and was still running around 7th for most of the race until we made a very important discovery; a standard 718 fuel tank will not do 45 minutes flat out paperbag.

I hadn’t been able to do a full race distance run in testing because of red flags on one day and wet conditions on the other, I knew it would be needing a full tank at the start but a couple laps before the end I started getting fuel surge had had to retire the car.

To add insult onto injury we were then handed a penalty for a short pitstop along with three others including the race leader! The data on my timer showed us being 1.5s clear but at that point it didn’t matter so we’ll just take that as a lesson learned for the next time out confused .

So it was a scrappy one but on the positives the car was reliable and consistent and there’s a load of improvements that we are lining up and getting done.

First is obviously a bigger fuel tank which is on its way, the GT4 tank is about 20% bigger and I’ve dropped on a 2nd hand one that should do the trick. I did price up the Porsche 80 litre "trackday" tank option but it was about £14k+vat.

Yes, you did read that correctly, £14000+vat for a fuel tank jester.

We were already set up with Ninemeister in Warrington to solve the issue of the open diff and the car is there now having a nice wavetrac Lsd installed and while it’s there it’s having a boost surge problem looked at which should make it much more drivable.

While we are changing the tank the front subframe needs to come off so it’s the opportunity to fit the GT4 front arb that has been waiting to go on and then it’s another look at setup as I think it may be sprung a bit too soft.

So plenty more to do and gain and it’s also quite possible that it will go faster as I become better acquainted with the car as well yes

Holy sheeeyt! You could get a FIA spec fuel cell for 1/10th that! Porsche tax at it's finest..

Yep, unfortunately this has to fit into an oddly shaped space so they have collared a niche market and put a price tag on it rolleyes.

If we look at doing longer races next year I’m hoping that the GT4 tank + some kind of piggyback will be the answer.

The joys of pdk! Most of the races we do have rolling starts, but when they're not it flies to the front like yours!
It might be worth looking at 997 tanks.

Pdk and an engine sat on the back wheels biggrin.

There does seem to be a tendency to do more rolling starts which I have to say I’m not a particular fan of (in any car), a standing start is way more exciting to drive.
