Thanks Julian, I can’t wait to see the new purchase, it looks gorgeous on the pics but I won’t give anything else away .
Yesterday’s race was great fun and I will update properly but for now lets say it was a successful day out
I was really pleased with the coverage, they don’t always look enough at all the different classes but I think we got a decent amount of camera time.

Excellent racing.
Decent section of video with the chasing Lotus starts at 3:42:46.
When I was watching it live I thought you were a bit bouncy, but watching it again, it was a bump on the track.
Oulton is a mega circuit to drive but not particularly suited to a heavy car like ours against lightweight stuff like the Lotus so that was a great battle. Decent section of video with the chasing Lotus starts at 3:42:46.

Ooh, which Porsche have you bought, Julian?
Hi CraigI ended up going for a 1980 911 SC Targa...
It is not as fast as Steve's Cayman (but then again I am not as fast as Steve anyway!) but it is pretty safe to say I am very happy with it!
BTW, I answered your question of the finance forum, but hadn't seen Burwood had beaten me to it!
So a quick rundown from last weekend……..
This was my first race in 750 Club Enduro since I won the championship in 2018. I didn’t want to rush back in while we were still getting the teething issues sorted on the car but it is one of the top options for next year and this was a chance to see how things have moved on in the last few years.
They’ve moved on a lot!
When we raced at Oulton in 18 pole time for class B was a 1.56.5, I managed a 154.6 in quali on Saturday and that was third in class! The time I did would have put me 4th on the overall grid in 18, on Saturday I was 17th . In fact on the grid I was one place higher overall in 18 despite being in a class C car then.
2018
2021
The good news was that the two cars ahead of me in class B were only a few 10ths off and I got caught by traffic on my flying lap so my optimum time would have put me ahead of both of them by a couple of tenths.
This was my quali lap -
https://youtu.be/1EYVDNAf09U
I could see on the timer that I was over 2s up on my previous lap which was a 1.56 dead so I should have hit a high 1.53, the car at the last turn did nothing to actually hinder me but I had to go off line to pass him and that cost enough.
So, to the race. This was a 125 minute race with a single fuel stop which has to last at least three minutes. You aren’t allowed to stop in the first 30 or last 15 minutes of the race. We were also doing a driver swap as this was the first race where I was sharing the car.
The car isn’t quite where I want it yet on the power/weight balance so we knew we needed to be carrying around 30ltrs of fuel at the end to be safe on weight which meant our effective pit window didn’t open until about 50 minutes into the race. You alway try to pit under safety car where possible so what we really didn’t want was a safety car between 30-50 minutes as it would mean our competition could pit to take advantage at a time that we couldn’t.
So I was in first and we started the race with a rolling start. I got boxed in for the first couple of corners but finished the first lap up a place despite getting shunted from behind by another car and continued to press on for a few laps getting myself up from 17th to 12th overall and 1st in class by lap 10.
There had been an early safety car which wasn’t a big surprise but it was before the pits opened so nobody could take advantage of it. But then about 40 minutes in there was a second safety car called out , just when we couldn’t take advantage of it.
Almost the entire field pitted leaving me and a few other cars rolling round and I was then showing as 2nd place overall but we knew that I still had to pit and would lose all the time. When it went green again I kept plugging laps in and just after the one hour point I saw a car pulling off the track at the exit of Knickerbrook chicane, but it didn’t make it all the way off and so was in a dangerous position.
I radioed to the pits to say there may be another safety car and sure enough a couple of corners later all the signs were out and I dived into the pitlane.
It’s quite tricky to get 40ltrs of fuel into a car to strict regulations and do a driver change in under three minutes but we’d been practicing and we did it just under the line and the pace of the safety car meant we had been able to get in and out again without losing a lap; Paul got back out on track just before the SC train passed along the start/finish.
The final result of all this was that we restarted with around a 50s lead in our class and Paul kept it clean and safe for his stint. The only final drama was a car putting a lot of oil down a few minutes from the end causing multiple cars to go off but luckily we were not amongst them and they very sensibly put out red and chequered flags at the same time to avoid any risk in the last couple of laps.
Which left us first in class B and eighth overall!
This is most likely my last race of the season so a great way to finish it all off. The car has been getting better as we’ve developed it and this result means we’ve had four podiums, two class wins and an overall win on our first season which I’m really pleased with!
There’s a few plans in place of some tweaks and improvements over the winter and I’m really looking forward to sorting out what we will be doing next year!

Well done you - I watched the video of the race and was impressed by how well you and Paul kept it together while all around you were at sixes and sevens. I did wonder why you didn't pit under the first safety, but just assumed you wanted to get your money's worth - it was fairly obvious that there would be another safety car along before too long. So well judged.
You got loads of coverage on the video, which should make your sponsors happy.
By the way, who was Darren Ball Remove (up near the top of the qualifying list)?
Is that form of weight saving allowed under the rules?
I rather assumed you needed them in place to be a racing driver

Phwoar! That looks spot on. Not seen one that colour before either, so I'm guessing it's fairly rare. I may have to drive up and drool over it one day
You would always be welcome Craig, and you might very well be interested in some other day out plans Seve and I discussed when he was round at mine this week... QBee said:
Does the mad mutt travel on the picnic table at the rear?
Or is this definitely a dog-free car?
With a very heavy heart I had to let the mad mutt go when I became ill this year and couldn't give her the excersise she needed. A great family on the coast took her and gave her a very good life. Of course as I am getting better I miss her and want her back, but the videos they have sent me show she is loving running on the beaches and she is part of their family now. Or is this definitely a dog-free car?
Given you are only up the road from me just give me a shout if you ever want to pop over for a drink and car chat. I also own a small shareholding in the new TVR relaunch company, which seems to have started life with typical TVR niggles and problems!

Perhaps time to find another dog then? I love having ours and enjoy walking them twice a day. They are probably the only thing that gets me out of the house and taking exercise.
It's far too easy to spend all my waking time at my desk, and working from home compounds this.
Thank you for your kind invitation. Yes, I am not too far away.
My TVR is the only half decent car I have, and even that has done too many miles and too many track days to be presentable.
But I love to chat cars - all TVR owners I know can talk for Europe on the subject, and I am no exception.
Good luck with the TVR shareholding - it's looking somewhat 50/50 whether you will ever see a return on it, given the recent and fast rise of the EV.
But who knows, people are still queueing up to buy specialist cars with large petrol engines. I have seen the one and only new Griffith in the flesh and moving, and it does have something about it.
I only took a small share holding on the basis that if I lost the lot then it wasn't a big wedge!
IM Racing is much, much more fun and we have some great plans for 2020! We are also doing a limited edition watch with Christopher Ward. I have the first design option and will have two more by next week. Until then all I can show is the box, but unlike TVR it will have something inside it in 10 weeks time!

Julian posting up reminds me that I have been a bit quiet on here since the final race
Nature of the season ending to some extent but racing at this level doesn’t allow for a few quiet months in the villa in Monaco; instead there has been a huge amount of planning for next season and a certain amount of car tweaking going on so there will be updates coming in the next few weeks
There will be live streamed coverage and possibly some opportunities to get a bit involved and come along and see some club endurance racing.
May be worth a new 2022 IMR Cayman thread, to cover next years plans and exploits
