Hi

Any recommendations on over ear headphones for gym? I know most will say they are uncomfortable but in ear just dont seem to block out any external noise (like being in my own zone at the gym not hearing the crappy gym playlist)

I know they are ‘fashion’ but really drawn to the beats studio3 for the noise cancellation. Has anyone used them?

Depends on your budget, I have just got the new Bose quietcomfort earbuds, full noise cancellation (you can adjust how much NC you want using the app). As with any Bose NC, it's excellent. But, they're £249. I think they're worth it, but it is a load to spend.

Budget up to £300. Have a john lewis voucher and looking to use that up.
Not a fan of the earbuds. Had the apple airpods and they just didnt feel snug. Kept falling out.

John Lewis sells the bose.

the issue for the gym with over ears is that to be noise cancelling they need to either seal in the ear canal or totally cover the ear, so any over ears will be quite a size. I also have the Sony WH1000 xm3's (updated version is the WH1000 xm4) which are light, but chunky. The NC and sound on those is amazing as well.

My kids have had Beats headphones as they're fashionable, but the quality both sound and build is rubbish IMO.

I have Bose Soundsport free, had them a while. I can’t get on with apple earbuds but these fit really well, have never come out and the sound quality is decent. Wear them in the gym and running, but they don’t have NC.

I have the same problem with my AirPods, these have improved them massively -

I use a set of Sennheiser Momentum wireless. They sound great, good level of (adjustable) noise cancellation, and pretty comfortable.

Only thing is that the clamping force isn't that strong, so that if I'm on the bench, decline sit-ups, or even doing heavy deads and letting the bar more or less drop, the headphones can slip a bit.

Wouldn't run in them, but they're great on the rower and most in-gym stuff.

You won’t be disappointed with the Bose QC’s. The anc is fantastic and will cut out all that gym noise.
It’s quite incredible how much noise they can cut out.
They have stayed in well for me using elliptical, rowers etc but ymmv.
I have the Powerbeats pro which are definitely more secure in the ears due to the over ear design but they can’t match the sound quality of the Bose.
I had the AirPod pro’s which came close to the anc of the Bose but didn’t find them good for active sports.
