I dont get the whole labouring the engine thing, generally the most fuel efficient area is low revs with full boost.

I haven't found it to be lacking torque personally although I do think it comes in a little further up the rev range, I'm sure peak is 2700rpm or something similar. Gear are long presumably because of 5 speed so I'm holding gears longer than I would normally. Amazing what these sub 1.0 3 pots are capable of really . . . .

I'm still being careful and keeping to 3000rpm with the odd upto 5000rpm.

It does zing along but you can't be lazy with the gearchange like you could in my 2.5 BMW or my 5.0 Mustang GT.

It's all part of the fun, very similar to riding a motorbike hehe

In fact I've had bigger and more powerful engines in some of my motorbikes in the past smile

Sadly yes.

Have had a nightmare on eBay though.

Started with 'Whats best price Bruv' which stopped when the bidding got past £1000.

From then on interested bidders all contacted me asking relevant questions.

Got to £2000 then some turd jumped in and put in silly bids and one interested party tried to outbid.

tt won and disappeared. Taken a week for eBay to refund fees and now to start over again.

I did contact the interested bidder and said I was happy to let it go for the price it was before idiot got involved.

He might be interested but is seeing another e36 more local to him now.

If I had off road space I'd keep it but I really shouldn't be running 2 cars plus main reason for letting the Beemer go was because of the expanded Emission Zone in October.

Otherwise I would be keeping it and I would never have discovered the Throbber hehe

Just reading the Top Gear review from a few years ago and their main gripe was the 1.6 litre engine.

Seems the 1.0 cures most of those criticisms.

Pretty much mirrors my experience of selling cars on eBay. In my experience Facebook Marketplace seems to be a lot less grief with a lot less timewasters and it is free.

With eBay I got so worn down with the timewasters and having to relist the car several times I ended up pretty much giving it away. I find Auction and Buy it Now is the worst as you get the people who get all excited about buying a car and then go strangely quiet when they realise they don't actually want it.

perils of ebay, people just don't pay and ebay don't seem to care.
You relist, they get a strike and in the worst case account terminated but they can just sign up again

cant find it in terms but i heard that on a vehicle the buyer isnt even obliged to pay as they cant view/test drive the item online.

The 1.0 is good, and I'm not complaining its sporty, smooth and throbby all at the same time. The Duster is relaxed drive, I think a more relaxed engine would suit it better. Maybe the 1.3 but then you start to lose the point.

Croyde,

Dont list it as an auction, list it as a classified add on Ebay.

I would never list an item like that on an Ebay auction sale. You are guaranteed failure.

It is really not designed to achieve a fair sale for the seller or the buyer (specifically when dealing with old cars).

I suggested to Ebay the alterations they could make to the process they have. I am a former member of the motortrade. (who used to buy hundreds of cars at auction). They just ignored me. (Suppose I should have known they would).

You have to view an old car unless it is really cheap, unless you know the seller. Quite often the seller is just ignorant. Not deceptive, they just dont know how to describe the faults a car has. Why should they?

The Ebay last second sniping bids coming in from potential purchasers is a joke.

I would list it as a "classified" sale on Ebay.

You will get the same marketing exposure through Ebay and Google as an auction sale.

The classified fees are much much less and you will get proper people who will look at it before they make an offer. You are even allowed to post your phone number. Ebay police auctions and will kick you off if you try and send you phone number to a potential buyer when an auction is live.

In other words the classified method is a good way to filter out all the dross, time-wasters and 11 year olds.

The classified option is buried in the options as you list the car. Ignore the suggested listing price as it will not be a fair reflection of you cars value.

I would tend to ignore the "automatically accept offers above ££" option and the "switch on easy sale" button as well. They cause problems.

Good Luck.

Good suggestions by PP above, though I mirror the recommendation on FB Marketplace.

I was reluctant to sell and was swaying towards the WBAC route but was persuaded by friends to try FB first. After lots of enquiries (and a few low ballers / weirdos which were ignored!) my Citroen C1 sold within 24hrs of advertising to a really pleasant couple, making way for the imminent throbber!

Hoping to pick mine up at the weekend. The salesman I was initially dealing with isn't in work so I'm dealing with someone else now. It's still nice and professional but it's still a little setback.

Looks like all the cheap pre-registered Dusters have disappeared now - I'd saved a couple of adverts on Auto Trader and they are showing as no longer available.

How's everyone getting on with theirs? I'm still considering one of these but looks like I will have to wait for a while.

Evans Halshaw are showing some @ £10400 and Bristol St £11000.

Ours is proving a success, wife likes driving it, she even threatened to clean it (something I've never known in 25yrs) plus complained about some grit I put on the drive. Apparently its getting walked into HER car and making it messy.

I like it cause of a it's no nonsense rufty tufty looks. (I know, I know I'm just shallow)

If it's reliable in 5-10 yrs time it'll get demoted to my car.

Incidentally one alternative was the new Sandero Stepway, I saw a current shape in the car park earlier today. I'm sure it's very worthy but pleased we had the Duster.

I noticed today a piece of trim pops off the radio to fit phone holder, I see they're £40 on ebay. Anyone tried one? I thought it'd be ideal for my Garmin.

I've been looking at those. Problem is it'll cover all the buttons and it'll mean the phone is a bit low for me.

I downloaded the R&Go Renault app that you are supposed to use with the holder.

It's like a more involved Android Auto and gives the impression that you can get read outs like mpg, av speed etc but it kept saying connect to radio which I was already so I deleted it off my phone.

Unless it has to be connected via the usb socket that is under the cover.

ETA it seems the R&Go app only works with some Renaults which let you see via the phone, various engine parameters.

I'm going to pop out and try again just in case. My phone is connected to My Car in the Duster but I need to look for another connection called R&Go whilst using the app.

Hello. I did try the Renault and Go app again but it doesn't see R&Go coming from radio for a Bluetooth connection. Only My Car.

I'll stick to Android Auto on my phone.

Anyone found a good vent holder? I'm currently using a spidery bendy thing that worked well in the BMW vents but is very wobbly in the Duster.

Took Duster to the car wash today. Got rid of that grey salt covering the sides and tailgate. Radio aerial unscrewed ok, I dabbed a bit of grease on the thread before screwing it back.

Now on average 36mpg and halfway through my first tank whilst commuting and toddling around SW London.

Long time Throbber admirer here.

Check out this interesting video I found of your Throbbers being made from the very first metal sheet to finished product. There's a lot more human involvement then I'd have expected. Beware it's half an hour long, including about 15 mins of building the Throbber unit itself and some specialist vehicles and QA testing at the end.

Thanks only watched the 1st half but enjoying so far.

I saw a white one and a stern looking redhead fiddling with a throbber.

I think it was Croyde's

I collected mine yesterday.
Just like PP mentioned, it rides really well with absorbing bumps/potholes really nicely but still manages to corner reasonably well with minimal roll (considering the ride height and type of car it is)..
I've only covered 65 miles so far and haven't given it full throttle but it sat nicely at motorway speeds on my way home yesterday. Took it shopping today through some country lanes and it was good fun and returned 48mpg on average.
I opened the bonnet today and was impressed to see it lift on dampers. I was expecting a prop thing.
It's sooo quiet!

What's (initially!) not to like? Well, it's bigger than I thought it would be! I only realised when I parked it on the drive, though I'm used to seeing a C1 in its spot.
When getting out, I need to remember the sill is quite wide as I keep rubbing my jeans against it which is going to result in the dirt transferring onto me. Me, being a short arse probably doesn't help.
I keep shifting gear too early. This is just a case of getting used to the gearing, I'm sure.

What's the key symbol on the compartment in front of the gearstick for? I'm guessing it's for keyless cars..
Also, do you think swapping the speed limiter switch to one from a CC model would activate cruise?
