Good on you for getting help, too many people keep trying to push on until it's too late.
And the car looks utterly fantastic too.

Good to hear that you’re getting back on track; it’s certainly been a strange 21 months or so.

I think hanging onto it was a good call. It’s a bloody cool car that has had a lot of work put into it.

Always good to see an update on the 850, and glad you are on the mend. A very difficult time for a lot of people, in all sorts of circumstances - stay well and keep talking to people!

Coincidence, I bought S60R rear calipers from Classicswede the week before Xmas! To match my Stoptech front kit ( Stoptechs have been re painted with Brembo decals ). Mine has a large cone filter as battery relocated to the boot. Makes a lot of induction roar and wastegate chatter.

Your 850R looks great, keep the updates coming.

Cheers

The Stoptech kit has been on the car for 12 years so it’s been through a couple of sets of discs/pads. I’ve never had a problem with it. Strangely the guy who bought the kit brand new in 2007-2008 had AP before and preferred the Stoptech kit, his red 850R saloon was about 450bhp and was a regular at the Ring and UK trackdays.
About 18 months ago I replaced the rotors with Girodisc from Sumo power and had new bells made by Reyland motorsport. Pads are Carbotech XP10. Stoptech brake kits use Brembo calipers btw.

I am using the same pads, now don't get me wrong, they are epic, but give off an huge amount of dust, wheels are ceramic coated but even then, cleaning the baked on dust is hard going, also the brake squeal is comical!!!

Yes the brake dust is terrible with XP10, probably the worst I’ve ever experienced! Literally covered within a few miles.

Post up how you get on with fitting the rear brakes, I’m hoping to gently re shape the existing hard lines so they reach the new calipers but we will see.

When replacing a standard rear caliper last year I had to hacksaw the brake line as it was totally seized so that one side is about 2 inches shorter. At least I know it won’t be seized though!

I’m running 8x17 Team Dynamics with 235/40/17 AD08R. Front brakes are 332mm.

You are right the AP 328mm kit is the largest to fit under the Volans. AP don’t produce that kit anymore so nice that you already have it.

I drove past you today on the M40 heading north - your car looked very nice! Has a lot of presence on the road.

How was breakfast?

I was in my Mini Cooper S, on my way to Mini's and Milkshakes.

Flipping the bird wouldn't have been nice, and unwarranted.

Great, I am glad it was. I've been before but didn't eat. I'll have to give it a try at some point.

The day was OK, first Mini event, some nice cars and came away with some ideas.

Brembos, Stoptech, APs and my mountain bike brakes are far superior than the standard 280/302mm set ups! How on earth Volvo thought that set up was man enough is beyond me!!
Ah, I’m reminded of my XP8s. Many a time I was stopped and told my brakes needed replacing hehe

Epic pads though.

The 850 hasn't had a whole heap of progress, it has been used daily while we have tried to identify why my wife's C70 D5 wont start, that's another thread on its own!

I haven't had the time to sort the rear APs, neither fit the interior re-trimmed goodies

A couple of pics at the natural feeding place for an 850!

Running on V-Power, when it needs juice it gets it, what am i getting to the gallon? well the trip says 18.9mpg, if i could be bothered to work it out properly id suggest that figure is rather optimistic!!

Not overly fussed on the MPG, smiles per miles as they say.

Sailed through the MOT a couple of weeks ago, so another 12 months trouble free motoring (ive fuc*ed it now)

Was nice to be spotted on the M40 yesterday, for once i wasn't ermmm pressing on and making progress as they say!

That just looks amazing coolbiggrin

Oh FFS, take it to the cr4p numberplate thread.

Nice to see the purchased saloon OP. You do know you can't breed them, right? biggrin

I'm of the opinion people who use this statement have some sort of serious issues lingering.

But I digress.

Awesome car... I've had a few R's but never went down the red on whiter than white interior combo and I regret that now that prices have soared.

I feel your pain regarding parts, I've an 850 T-5 just now and bits that were common place what felt like yesterday are now getting very rare... and expensive!

Upside is they're probably firmly in modern classic status now and are perfectly usable day to day cars.

Great work!

The prices of genuine PCV kits have gone a bit nuts!
