From memory I think that the pre-facelift Mk2s were a little faster. When they got the smarter trim the final drive was lowered slightly too.

Here we go this is what I want the wheels to look like, slot more period/standard. There machined faces are just too bling for me especially on a fiesta.

Booked in for tomorrow !

I think period "Popular Plus" decals would be the way to go on the sleeper front. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-New-FORD-POPULA...

Had a red Mk1 1.1 Fiesta as my 1st car, a little after my brother's brand new Mk2 XR2, IIRC he had 14" 7 spoke RS alloys with BF Goodrich tyres which looked the business to my mind. Similar to these, but cleaner:

That XR2 was washed within an inch of it's life, sometimes twice a day, trying to remove the flies that squashed on it at speed. All that cleaning and a small number of places to get a car cleaned to his exacting standards led to him starting his own valeting business in 1986.

the 7 spokes look great on the XR2 with the body kit. there a bit to sporty for my liking on the POP. year I'm surprised that theirs any paint left non mine the amount it gets washed, im my head i think it looks like a barryboys car if its dirty.

Few small jobs this week along with getting the wheels done in silver.

Wrapped the manifold, with some funk Motorsports wrap. They make some decent stuff. I've got there velcro cable wrap on the crank sensor wire as it right by the exhaust.

New starter motor. No other reason than its smaller. It's from a 1.9tcdi transit connect. So it's faster and more powerful. Thab the one from the 1.0 iwas using.

Nothad chance to get a decent picture yet as it ws dark but I'm liking it!

Excellent project! I'm a serial MK2 XR2 owner and did a Zetec swap on one too. Re your fuel tank problem - you can just make your own in-tank swirl pot. All I did was visit a local scrap yard and grab a tank from a car that definitely had a swirl pot. I think I took a tank from a Mk6 Escort at the time. I took the tank off my Fiesta, opened up a hole in the top so that it would accept the Escort tank swirl pot, and welded the hole up with the top of the Escort tank so I could mount the in-tank pump. It worked perfectly but I had to use slightly extended bolts to mount the modified tank back up to my car to allow room for fuel pipes on top of the tank that weren't originally there, effectively lowering the tank a few mm. I ended up with a nice home-brew Zetec conversion. Mine went quite well for a standard 1.8 smile

That's a good idea, I have been thinking getting an in tank pump would be alot more civilized. Than the facet clacker in the boot.

Cheers guys,

Been offer a pair of dcoe 45s for a reasonable price. Very tempting. But I feel like it's abit of a side step rather than a gain.

Id also need to track down a less than 65mm manifold face to face. To fit them behind the bulkhead?

And I need to get this house move sorted so I can do the exhaust and LSD.

I can't send the gearbox out encase I need to drive the car ranting

And getting the chop saw and welder out seems counter productive especially as it sort of fits hehe

Agreed. Previous black/polished centres looked a bit try-hard, whereas this now looks like a well-sorted, wonderful thing owned by a real enthusiast. :-)
It's amazing what wheels can do to a car!

I came here from the "Your ultimate fun B road car" thread. This looks absolutely mega. driving

Thanks, it's a work in progress. But it certainly is a good fun on decent B road. It's a very interesting build for me, as I don't have a clear end or target I sort building it as I go. Be interested to see how it goes after a tune up and an LSD

There's been a development, in the fueling department.

I've never been happy with the part throttle fueling, and the high load fueling. Don't get me wrong it's ok but if not perfect. These came up stupidly cheap, with a zetec manifold. have a guess!

This is a set of dellorto DHLA 45D's I think they are from a lotus excel. There definitely OEM type ones from a lotus. Which is actually what I wanted. As they have much better part throttle as they have more progression holes.

What's even better is they have been setup buy a renowned specialist for an 1800zetec so they should be very close to what I need.
Rebuild kits should be with me tomorrow. I shall try and be better with the photos.

I've also downloaded this!

Little mock up.

Couple of mm short on the pedal throw. And the choke cable is to short. And not sure what I'm going to do for filtration. Shorter trumpets I guess

Using the correct font, how about "unpopular" or "unpopular plus"?

IIRC we all wanted DCNF webers (down draughts) to make the bulkhead clearance easier
