Added some LED headlight bulbs today - no warning or error lights, difference is night and day!

Need to sort the side lights though, they’re rough.

That’s a great improvement. I could do with sorting mine, it hardly gets driven in the dark in areas without streetlights however Mrs SB took it out the other evening and had a strop about the crap standard.

Are these bulbs MoT friendly?
Unfortunately as far as I’m aware, no! I plan to just switch over before next MOT due…

Recently managed to get a vast amount of interior trim which I needed, off a parts car. I took the GTI and loaded it up with tools to deconstruct a 987 interior.
Took me an hour or so to get all the parts I needed out, they’ll need a good clean, but other than that are perfect.

Struggled for time to fit them as yet, but managed the fit the Sun visors when I had the car out at the weekend. Seems a common issue on these that they begin to sag, not holding in their upright position.

Very easy job. 2 x T30 screws (image 1) on the outer side of each visor, and 1 x T20 screw (image 2) on the inner of each. The T20 hides behind a plastic flap, assuming for aesthetic reasons more than anything.

Forgot to take pictures to document full before and after, but see below for what I did get.

After fitting; poor I know…

Got the car out today with the decent weather. Tops down and plenty other likeminded petrolheads out enjoying their bikes and cars.

The 987 now meets the criteria to qualify as a classic through Porsche, bringing a welcome kit, discounted rates, I think some free valets too; though I may pass on the valets.

As the salt slowly gets washed off the roads, the car has come back out more frequently. An aimless drive was just what I needed… probably the car too.

I had previously mentioned of my desire to tackle the interior next, as various parts looked a bit tired. Once my deadlines for uni and work are met, towards the end of April, I’ll get focus shifted to that.

Nice write-up.

We’ve had ours for a month - 987.2S PDK - it was an impulse buy and it’s fab.

I have a long list of tweaks, fixes and retrofits, but I’d be happy enough if it would just stop raining.
Stunning spec, sounds like a great purchase!

Have always loved the 987.2 but when I purchased my .1 they were out with my budget by some stretch. They just look a bit sharper and that bit more modern.

Also you’ve the sports plus seats which I am a massive fan on, desperately trying to source a pair for my car.

Of course given that they are so difficult to get a hold of, I had thought about going after a set of recaro pole positions instead… then I’d have to go without heated seats

How is the new paint holding up? Would you recommend the paint shop? I live locally and am looking to have the front bumper of my car (also a 987) painted due to someone scuffing it while parking. Thanks
Paint holding up excellent! I had the displeasure of being behind someone who hit a verge and kicked up some massive stones, and the chips that are there are clear coat only, meaning if could be wet sanded and polished back if I want to remove. Attests to the quality of paint and standard of finish the guys are putting in.

Word of warning, Phil isn’t the biggest fan of doing single panels, he’s always extremely keen/insistent on blending into the adjoining panels to make sure the colour match is as good as possible.

I’d definitely give him a shout, tell him Craig sent you wink

Managed to salvage some bits off a local parts car. Lots of interior, and then something of particular interest; a set of ‘S’ Callipers.

The discs which came were 10 miles old, will need to be seen by a lathe to skim all that gingering off of them but otherwise they should be fine!

Did get some parts I don’t need, which I’ll sell on. For those interested;

Bose Soundbar
Passenger side rear light
Tiptronic gearbox surround

The car has been my daily for the past few weeks;

The newly acquired 330D needs a turbo, which I have waiting to fit (Thursday hopefully). The Saab is tucked away to keep miles off of and wait for me to give some new discs and pads. The A2 subframe has now been acquired and I am just awaiting fitting of that.

The GTI, despite being undeniably the best all-rounder of the lot, was washed and hasn’t been out the barn since… I just want to drive this, to be honest.

I think I may require 2 x new driveshafts soon though!

The right hand side one seems to be weeping grease, I’d be as well replace both; I’ll probably buy 2nd hand ones and refurb.

Just look at it though. And as far as economy goes as a daily, I drive back and forth between operator office and our own office, to and from work, to the heliport. And then rag it on backroads in the evenings. And it still maintains 26.4mpg. Not bad at all.

Having got a 996 recently, the 987 saw less use than usual through the summer months; been using it daily the last few weeks. Didn’t like the way the sidelights look comparative to the LED Headlight bulbs, so got LED Sidelights also. Looks much better IMO.

Also got 2 x used driveshafts for £55 and £60 respectively. Sent them off to get refurbed at a quoted price of £300-£400 for the pair, depending on the requirements/state of the driveshafts. I think very good if you consider 1 x new shaft is the best part of £950!
