I think silver wheels will work best with the blue.

The stock anthracite ones have diamond cut edges that don’t wear well (well mine didn’t). I like the red stitching which I think lefts a slightly dour cabin.

I had a diesel vRS for four years as my last company car and it was utterly brilliant. It just cracked on with everything that I asked of it; lugging mountain bikes round, family holidays, dump runs and it was brilliant when we moved house. My other half really liked it as well.

When did buying wipers become so faffy and bloody expensive? Google correct set required, Bosch Aero A860S for the pair, brilliant! Check on Halfords since I have a voucher, no those aren't the right set says Halfords, they are says I. They're also a bit bloody expensive says I. Try to order them anyway, no stock, delivery next weekend. Sigh. Try to order the single drivers side one instead even though it costs the same as a double set. Might as well use the voucher. Discover the voucher is not for use online or click and collect. Sigh. Right, Google again, Eurocarparts, local, in stock, £40! No thanks. Check Amazon, in stock, delivery Monday, £20, great. Remember I hate ordering off Amazon. See an advert for Eurocarparts suggesting a 40% off code (LOVE50). Return to Eurocarparts site, £20, collect in an hour. Done. At least now I've an excuse to take the longer way home.
Postscript.

Get wiper blades home. Work out how to set wipers to maintenance position to fit. Realise blades don’t fit and you’ve bought the wrong set from Eurocarparts. 980S instead of 860S.

FFS.

This week I have discovered two things about Octavia’s.

1) The alloys are exceedingly easy to kerb. Or maybe I am cack at judging size. Or maybe both.

2) The boots in these things things are bloody hoooouge. Double bed frame and oversized double mattress for reference...

That are indeed bloody massive inside. Mine swallowed all sorts of crap.

The alloys are so easy to kerb. Mine have been trashed by the worst kind: Cornish village sharp-cornered granite ones!

I can report that the kerbs next door in Devon are pretty sharp too!

My current view 'from the office'.

Not the VRS version unfortunately but great cars to drive! Very 'chuckable', even at high speeds, and I love the amount of grip you have, no matter the weather.

One anecdotal VRS estate story; my son has one of these (red, 64 plate), that went into limp mode. The cause was diagnosed by a local "specialist" as a failed actuator in the turbo (apologies if I haven't described this correctly), cannot get the part, needs a whole new turbo, £2.5k to sort it.

Some surfing found a replacement turbo + housing at £750. He took it to an old-school garage of my acquaintance to have a look before ordering. Two days later, call comes in, your car's sorted - it was a faulty solenoid. £270 the lot.

That was only last week, but it's running fine.

Outstanding cars. Driven my father's a lot and it's such a well built car. He has the 2.0 TDi Mk3 VRS estate, bought it from new in 2012, still has it and loves it more than anything. He has a little runaround £500 fiesta that he drives to work and back to keep the wear and tear down on his VRS.

Originally I thought it was a daft idea. Buying a 5-door economical diesel to run around the shops so that he can keep the mileage down on his other 5-door economical diesel car. I asked if he considered selling to get something less practical if he already has a 'daily', and no matter what I mentioned (even the petrol equivalent) he won't give it up.

Loves it far too much.

I definitely prefer the silver wheels on yours!

Nice view!

I officially removed the ‘new car’ smell out of mine this morning collecting bags of horse manure for the allotment!

Also quite enjoying the change in fuel consumption from the Alfa to the VRS. 220 miles to a tank costing £65 in the Alfa compared to 300+miles to a tank costing £55 in the VRS.

Sunshine and a bit of polish is a good combo.

Got to say the looks of the VRS are really growing on me, maybe it’s the blue but there’s definitely a whiff of R34 about the front.

The continuing saga of large objects you can fit in the back of an Octavia number 4:

A six foot long 6 person picnic bench. It really is fecking massive back there and I'm so glad a manufacturer has made folding the rear seat flat so easy finally! The little levers at the back are genius.

Also a query for other owners/drivers, do they use a lot of oil?

I got a check oil light last and sure enough it's low. Maybe the dealer just didn't bother to top it up! See the What annoyed you today thread for the joy of trying to buy a few litres of Castrol Edge 5w30 locally at a non-ruinous price!

Which is precisely where I've just ordered it from. Or rather it's where my wife's Prime account has ordered it from.

My diesel used a bit of oil....the warning light usually appeared in the middle of long trip!

I think it was roughly a litre every 9-10k, so roughly half way through its service cycle.
