2008 RS6 V10... Part 2

Unfortunately most of the pictures have gone now. In summary, I was lucky enough to have the V10 dropped out of my RS6 about two weeks into ownership to replace the 50p oil seal and coolant pipes.
Fantastic start to RS6 ownership ! Ran the car for a while, enjoyed it massively, but I decided to move it on after 10 months and try a few other cars.
Well, 4 years later and in an ever changing world, it looks like most manufacturers are heading down the electric / hybrid route. I don't have anything against it, but PH nailed it on one Instagram post -
bds. Off to the classifieds I went, just more out of interest than anything . Seen a nice Daytona Grey Avant (Same as the last one), lowish miles for the age, and more crucially, had receipts for the Oil seal being replaced. A quick call to the dealer, deposit placed, and picked it up last weekend. On picking the car up, it had a wad of receipts (Good!), it also has Bilstein coilovers, so the sometimes troublesome DRC system has been removed. On top of that, secondary cats have been removed and the standard filters have been replaced for BMC items, so it is good to go for a Stage 2 map at MRC once things settle down again. The one regret I had with my last one was that I didn't get it mapped, not that 570bhp is any slouch, but 7xx/10xx sounds better!
One difference from last time is that this won't be a daily, I know some people will think 'why have an Avant as a second car?', but the cold start of a V10 with half the cats ripped out it is half the reason
Plans? Well, Stage 2 map as above, probably do the 410mm AP Racing upgrade on the front, H&R Anti-Roll bar and just enjoy the thing, hopefully a few euro trips once restrictions are lifted. Tune in to see what happens!

Not much to update... fitted some wheel bolt covers to distract your eye away from the bolts. Excuse the rusty wheel weights!
The one time 390mm discs look on the small side
Been out to give it some miles over the last few days, noticed tonight there seems to be a slight rattle from the underside, almost sounds like a loose exhaust clamp or similar. Will get it up in the air when I get back and investigate, and see what the underside is looking like.
Hopefully be able to get in touch with MRC over the next few weeks for the engine and gearbox map. I emailed them a while back but as of yet, no response. Been busy myself so haven’t chased it up - no huge rush. Also thinking about getting the gearbox serviced before it gets mapped - luckily I am not far from a ZF agent, so that’s handy.

Following Ian’s thread revival, I thought I better update my own!
Rattle turned out to be the backing plates for the rear brakes loose, one side had been cable tied (!) and the other was totally loose, so both removed and will replace soon. Number plate holder cut and joined to accommodate smaller plate, just finishes off the front.
Was away for a service a few weeks ago, engine oil, gearbox oil and rear diff oil changed and a check over. Needs rear pads soon, so will look into a set of DS2500s for it. Gearbox oil was done as it seems that it is a requirement for MRC mapping that it is serviced, so will need to get it booked soon. Also need to try and remove the rear spring adjusters and free them off, it’s sitting too low at the back.
Not much else to update, apart from just enjoying the thing!

Howdo, regarding the rear DS2500's I found absolutely zero difference in performance between the DS and the OEM pads for "on the road" unless you're driving extremely hard but IIRC the prices are around the same but don't go expecting any noticeable difference after you fit them.
I've had the DS2500 rear pads first with OEM discs and then later got the AP racing rear 356mm discs and the discs made a far more noticeable difference in "stability" under hard braking.

Rear discs are still good, so might see what is available and go from there. I was planning to put the 410mm AP upgrade on the front at some point if I can sell the front discs/pads/calipers setup which is still in pretty decent condition. I won’t do much track use for it (there’s another car for that), but you know what it is like

It's your choice but this advice may save you a little money - Swapping the larger 410mm AP discs on a "road" car (no track use) is pretty overkill vs the OEM sized (and direct replacement) AP 390mm ones from my experience but thats subjective on my part.I did 10+ track days at 735hp with AP 390mm discs, DS2500 pads and ATE Superblue and never noticed any fade bad enough to make me think "Oh No I need better brakes", I mean the pedal might travel slightly longer but the braking power was always great.
Again, bigger brakes are always cooler, but maybe not 100% necessary.
Wise words, I’ll need to price up both options and see what the best route to go with is.
I take it MRC are still considered the best for mapping? I tried emailing them a few weeks back but no response as of yet, once I am home I will try and give them a ring. They have a place slightly closer to home here in Scotland, so not sure if it can be done up here or just as well taking it down to them.

Definitely ring them, their e-mail reponse time is laughable at best I've not used the Scottish branch but, as long as they do the C6 (not shown of their website) then the maps are the same so it should be worth it rather than driving down to Banbury!
