Long time no see, time for a small update.

Rear pads fitted, went for OE Audi as I managed to get a set on eBay for £67, so can’t complain. Took the time to strip and clean the fronts aswell, clean all the discs up, rubbed down the bells and gave them a quick paint, car is definitely looking sharper now.



Car has also been booked in with MRC up here in Scotland, initially planned for just a stage 2 and leaving the standard downpipes in, but after a bit of a thought, have decided to go with the MRC Downpipes too, as I don’t want the standard cats having a chance to fail and causing any issues. Many horror stories about engines coming out for it but they seem confident that it can be done in situ, so here’s hoping. Took the air filters out for a clean, as it won’t be doing much now until mapping in Mid September.



Hoping to be somewhere in the region of 770-800PS and 1000NM+, car sits just now with BMC filters, secondary decat and a 3.5in custom exhaust on it, so should be there or thereabouts.

Really need to get the back spring adjusters off and freed off so I can raise the rear ride height. Just sits a bit too low and has started to go through the liner a bit. Think the Bilstein springs are just a bit too short and as far as it looks, there’s maybe only 5mm more adjustment so need to see what happens. Does look good though rolleyes

Yeap downpipes can be done in-situ but just be aware that there is still a small risk that 1 exhaust stud on the LH turbo can shear (outboard upper one IIRC), which has happened a few times to folks on RS246, and this would then require the engine to come out to be repaired. It's fairly rare but just be aware it has happened.

Good luck anyway, the OE turbos should make that power level you're after, just expect the power/TQ to flatten off at around 5.5K RPM as the OE turbos will be max'ed out by then but it'll still be stupidly quick biggrin

I’m hoping we don’t run into any issues, but let’s see what happens. Knowing my luck… hehe

Mapping went great!



And you’ll notice it is in a shed, not a garage. Been a busy few days rolleyes

What a cliff hanger! I hope there is an update soon.

I love the look/idea of one of the these V10 RS6s. Maybe next car purchase. However, this thread isn't doing much to show their reliability laugh

I hope the cause of the mapping issue wasn't too bad OP!

Unlucky there dude, however to find a silver lining it's a perfect time for the TTE1000 turbos, oil seal and coolant pipes wink

Can you tell us what happened during the mapping yet?

I must note at the top, I should have worded that better. We didn’t even get to the mapping stage, and no failure of anything has been caused by MRC, in fact if it wasn’t for their advice, we would probably be in a much worse situation! So I can only praise them, and holding true to their word and keeping me booked in for mapping in the future. Wouldn’t want anyone thinking that something has happened due to their workmanship!

So on looking at the engine when it was dropped for the pipes, they noticed a slight oil leak from the back of the engine, and unfortunately it was drawing down onto the L/H downpipe, so we stopped all work as there was no point in creating any risk of anything catching fire. And an attempt was made to try to get a bolt off the turbo, and it sheared straight away so it was bound to happen anyway.

So, that’s where we are now. Decided to take the engine out myself, as I do have a bit of time off over the next few months, and can get to look at it in depth. The sad thing is that this car was purchased on history, including a huge bill for seals. To be fair it isn’t leaking in the usual places, more towards the back of the rocker, potentially the vac pump at the back too. But regardless, everything will be getting a refresh as it is approaching 100k.

Can you tell us what happened during the mapping yet?
TTE1000s would be lovely, but couldn’t justify it at the moment as to get anything out of it, I would have to do the box too. That wasn’t the plan, but let’s see what the next few months bring! I must be one of very few people who has had two RS6’s and both have needed an engine out job? silly




Don’t worry, the axle stands aren’t holding anything, just a fail safe. Made a lovely pallet engine stand, hopefully get it lifted on tonight.

Not much been happening to be honest! wobble All is going well in my ultra clean engine room!



I should really do a proper update, so bear with me a few days and I’ll get something typed up. It’s definitely turned into a ‘let’s replace this whilst I’m here’ job to be fair…
