Hello, albeit I haven't offered up either to see fit and I think the MGC bonnet is a thing of beauty smile and certainly a style I would like to mimic by handing the bonnet to someone with the necessary skills, I'd like to stay away from grp and the aluminium NOS are horrendously expensive.

I think it would need to be a fair bit of an exaggerated bulge too once the issue of air filtration is sorted, not a fan of the mesh style 'filters' and the smallest K and N (chrome lid oval type) would add an additional 40mm in height unless anyone could recommend alternatives...

For the engine's sake, ensure air filtration is effective. K&Ns work very well but you need sufficient filter area or flow (and power) will suffer. Too large is fine. Mesh filters are hopeless.

We overcome bonnet clearance problem by using a proprietary feed chamber on top the carb, which has two inlet hoses coupled to remote large cylindrical K&N filters. They need to have an unrestricted cold air supply. Works with one carb but would be challenge with four.

Probably totally inappropriate, but how about a 'perspex' bubble to clear the carbs, as used in the historic race cars ( Ferrari/Maserati IIRC), or a carbon fibre copy of the MGC type bonnet?
