Booked in with Collins on Sep 14th for the LSD to be fitted.

Will report back when it’s done.

Looking forward to it, the more I drive it now, the more I can feel it sort of shuffling about at the front, I guess it is the torque vectoring/ESP and possibly the tyres getting a bit past their best. In the wet it will try and change lanes if you are indescreet with the throttle so hoping this reigns in that behavior.

So decided its sticking around one way or another with the way costs have gone, so man maths, spend £1300 odd on some cogs buried in the gearbox, most is labour as its pretty labour intensive, could get it done a bit cheaper but Collins have been good and are local. Did consider getting another box and putting one in, then swapping but there is backlash, float and all sorts to set up and I dont have a proper garage to do it in.

Will get the geo done, then thats it, am hoping they dont announce it needs a clutch, should really get it done whilst the box is out but thats more one I can tackle, and dont want to spend another £300 plus right now.

I had the Quaife on my old one and i still think it is the best upgrade i did on the car .

You can feel it working on the road if pushing on but on track it was amazing so will be very good purchase .

Yeah, with the cost of living, wont be changing any time soon so feel can do this last modification and get the value from it, think the MFactory is a Quaife knock off, works in the same manner I believe. Seems to be the last part of the process that ties it all together. It handles the power pretty well but its always on the edge of traction so hoping it tames that out.

Will probably go "Hmm could get away with more power now...."

LSD fitted, only done a few miles but it makes a huge difference.

Took it out down the lanes, can just plant the accelerator and the diff sorts it out, it will spin the wheels still but no pulling sideways like a dog chasing a squirrel.

I do think the front tyres are a bit past their best and it needs an alignment but it’s made a huge difference.

The other exhaust gasket has blown, so got to do that,
Collins didn’t have time and I have stitches in my shoulder so it will have to wait a week or two.

It’s a pretty capable little car now, it’s brought it together as a package now, almost ready for a track day…

Sounds great. Take it the clutch was fine? I've read they have an AP racing clutch in them from new which is massively over-engineered/spec'd.

Yeah, he did ask whether I was planning on fitting one but the clutch has been fine, makes sense to do one whilst the box is out but its only done 41k and the clutch was fine.

To be honest, would just diy a clutch on its own, didnt fancy splitting the box and doing all the setting up of the LSD.

The clutches are an AP item on these, and they do seem to be very capable, I mean, adding another 100 lb/ft of torque and it doesnt complain ?

I had a Saab and after a basic remap it overwhelmed the clutch, it wasnt worn out, just couldnt hold back that much torque. Suppose the ST is light and has an overspecced clutch so it will cope better than most.

This is one of my favourite readers cars threads.

I’d love to get an ST but living in south London I just worry there is a significant chance it will get nicked.

Yeah, they are quite sought after...

Mine was annoying me a bit, felt a bit rough/noisy (not good noisy, its allways noisy but not bad noisy) couldn't be exhaust as have already fixed two leaks by replacing the gaskets.

Noticed a smell of combustion gasses from under the bonnet, booked it into Collins as I cant reach that far into the bay to look, turns out the exhaust manifold had come adrift !

Anyway, they tightened it up to no avail and had to fit a new manifold gasket which is an arse of a job, fr which they only charged me sixty quid, normal service is resumed, love it again.

Front tyres are looking a little worse for wear, might see if I can source another set of wheels and refurb them, then get new PS5's fitted all round and do away with the aging Falkens on the back.

Got some camber bolts coming so will get it all tracked up when I get some new tyres.

Camber bolts fitted, and adjusted to the most negative they can be, does seem better, but the camber gauge I bought and the drive not being 100 percent flat was making readings a bit erratic, it drives fine and I dont care about the tyres that are on it.

So now need to get it booked in to get the alignment done, kind of thinking will put four new tyres on at the same time, and possibly get the wheels refurbed, then you think I could just get another set, found myself looking at Rota Recce but that would be a £1300 quid job with tyres and I didnt really want to do any cosmetic modifications. And am already over invested in the car.

Only other job was some new, solid wheel bolts to replace the crap Ford double skinned efforts that are easily chewed.

Found myself looking at old Jag XF's and stuff, fancy doing a few more weekends away in the UK and possibly to France and dont fancy doing that in this (But am keeping it one way or another) my wife flat refuses and says it makes her "face hurt" being in it for prolonged periods, though that was proven to be Covid rather than the car it has now stuck.

what’s your (slightly) longer term opinion of the diff (for road use)? (i’m especially interested in this greasy slimy leafy autumnal tarmac weather)

It makes the power delivery more predictable, it will spin the wheels but its not got that randomness, both spin and the threshold is higher before it lets go. Think my fronts are past their best and need changing.

Will get some new tyres in the New Year, and try and combine the that with a wheel refurb and tracking.

In other news, alarm stopped working properly, bonnet sensor micro switch had gone, was £80 to replace it, elected to just bypass it for the time being, short length or wire inserted to make the circuit, then put some shrink wrap round it and tie wrapped it out of the way, no more alarm activations since.

Had the exhaust sorted with various blows but still had some reverberation, so stuck it on ramps and got under it and it was touching the heat shield in certain circumstances so did a bit of adjustment and its fine now, was driving me mental.

I could never get my exhaust sorted, the garage tried all kinds of things like cutting off bits of the heatshield / uprated hangers etc but eventually just kept coming back

I'm amazed it worked, between the alarm and the exhaust it was getting on my tits.

New Years resolution is to get a track day booked, might get some kind of Jag as a daily and take it more in that direction.

It is great to hear that you've got to the bottom of the exhaust niggles Mark for sure. thumbup

Like you stuff like that drives me insane too. A great result. beer
