2007 Audi S6 Avant
Discussion
Great videos. I'm off there next week to drive around some mountain passes. Furkapass, Grimsel, Susten, Stelvio, possibly up to Great & Little St Bernard etc. Sadly it's in a Ford Fiesta hire car. Thinking about it, I wouldn't be that keen on throwing an S8 around some of the tighter and more congested passes in Italy!
^ The only pass that wasn't fun so far was the north side of the Col de la Lombarde between Italy and France, because that's only a genuine one-car wide road. Every time somebody else came the other way I had to come to a crawl to look for crossing space. The south side towards Isola was way better though.
But any other Pass road was completely hoonable, and I did the lot. My favourite is the Col du Galiber. No guardrails whatsoever which is a bit spooky, but what a great road:
Part 1
It took it easy for the first minute, but soon enough I had to stomp the loud pedal:
Part 2
And into the clouds we go:
On top the S6 looked like a toy car inbetween the campers
What a view:

^ I agree. Currently the prices for these are very low because there are still a number of them around, but in a few years when only the properly looked after examples are alive, it could become a quirky classic, although a very niche one:
I know not everybody can stand Doug DeMuro, but this S6 review is pretty accurate, especially the driving part from 15:56 onwards. You have to ignore the overuse of the "Lamborghini V10" nonsense (as in reality the Gallardo simply had a Audi engine):
More video from my France Roadtrip a few days ago: Going up the south side of the Col de la Bonette. And before somebody chimes in, yes at 1m30 I'm guilty of ignoring the overtaking etiquette by forcing the Volvo to abandon his own overtaking attempt so I can take both cars in one go:

Found another hooning video from my 2022 summer roadtrip:
Proper V10 sound comes at 0:30 (my cam had problems), overtaking at 0:13 and 2:20, a nice driver giving space at 4:00, and you can hear me resigning with a "tja...hehe...ok" when I catch up to a long line of cars at 4:40 shortly before the top = fun is over, time to chill

I own this car for about 20 months now, and I only just noticed how menacing these Terminator eyes actually look, when I parked the S6 up next to a regular A6 yesterday.
I also noticed the darkness of my windshield. No idea what's going on there. Is it actually tinted?
Anyway, I was just amused to be able to randomly compare my car to a regular A6 in 1:1, the big fat wheels do make a difference.
Currently at 241'000km (150'000mi), it's all good apart from a few electrical gremlins which seems to be normal for a 15/16yo daily driver: 1.) Sometimes the two front doors stay locked when you open the car with the central lock key button. Other days to they open without any problems. Sure, the doors can still be unlocked with using the actual key when this happens, but it's a bit of a nuisance, as it happends so utterly at random. - 2.) The automatic rear tailgate works again, but only when you use the outside latch, the dedicated button on the inside of the lid seems to be dead.
Also one thing I still have problems with after all this time is the extremly over-sensitive accelerator pedal when you drive off from a standstill when the car is in sport mode. It's all tame and fine in regular mode, but in sport mode it's basicly some sort of unwanted launch mode: The engine hurls to over 3000 revs (where all the power is), and then just dumps the clutch :BANG, and off you go. - But apparently all S6 models are set up like this, judging from some internet research.

The Sport mode is great for some spirited driving, but takes some getting used to from a standstill, it's very jerky and sensitive.
And yes, you've got a solar-reflective windscreen, as per my S8 's which is also heated (a conductive layer between the two panes, not heated wavy elements like a Ford), so I wonder if yours is heated too?
You obviously experience more cold weather over there than we do, have you ever noticed your front demist button flashing? If so, you've got a heated windscreen which sometimes came in conjunction with the solar-reflective glass.

My 2010 A6 had the same issue with the front doors. If I remember correctly (and it was a while ago) it was a control module inside the door card or something similar. Used to get worse in the cold. I think in the end it corrected itself.
Love how purposeful the S6 Avant looks from the rear. If I didn't do so many miles I'd love to dip into one of these before we're all driving voltmeters.

English translation: "Cars you shouldn't buy": first off the Audi S6 V10, "drinks too much, is unreliable, and the 4.2 is almost equally as fast".
Well, good thing I haven't bought one, as Youtubers that have never owned one and are posting by hearsay are the best source of information in these matters. - Meanwhile:

Yep, spring looked in during the last few days over here and suddenly the front door locks are working again without any problem. Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
