Number plates

In other news, I've fitted a new set of plates to the car. I drew inspiration for my plates from misano_tt_qs on Instagram. Well worth a follow. Arguably the most fastidiously restored and maintained MK1 TT I have ever seen.

He had a set of plates made with an in period dealership logo on them. See below.

I thought this was an incredible idea. Fantastic attention to detail and a subtle cool mod.

I contacted him about this and he kindly informed me that he created the logo on his computer and sent it to a plate maker, proplates to be precise.

His TT originally came from Epsom Audi, mine from Hartwell Audi. I couldn't find a picture anywhere of an Hartwell Audi plate from the early 2000s. So I made an educated guess of what it looks like and created it on my computer. Even if I'm actually wrong, Im very happy with the outcome. Proplates executed it perfectly. My face could barely contain my smile when they turned up.

Fuel Door Sticker

Finally (thanks for reading if you've got this far!) I ordered a new fuel door sticker as the old one was looking a bit decrepid

Great to see I'm inspiring others! Thanks for purchasing one of my fuel cap stickers too.

Just been reading through, this thread has unfortunately been quiet for a while. How’s the TT going?

Do it. I bought an Arrow Grey (Aviator Grey for the US) 180 Coupe Quattro, ARY engine so wideband I believe. November 2000 build date, registered in March of 01. Utter base model apart from that, with (what started life as) Denim Blue half leather/Alcantara interior (some ape has replaced the lower dash and glovebox, rear seats and door cards and all the trim inside the boot with ones from a black interior car.

Have done a few bits and pieces over the last 6 months and have a few parts collected for when I get a free week.

I took off the A8 replica wheels and put on some genuine 8L S3 Ronal AVUS wheels and plasti-dipped those dark gunmetal grey. I stuck some H7 HIDs in just to improve brightness a bit and changed the plugs and recirculation valve. I bought a 225 exhaust and rear diffuser and opened up the back box, removed the fibreglass wadding and cut a couple of notches out of the pipes to improve sound without making it too boomy as I also removed the centre resonator as well - I used the 180 system up to just before the back axle and then 225 after that. So much better and I much prefer the OEM twin tips to the single on the 180 or some big aftermarket ones.

Have a set of 40mm lowering springs to go on it (for now - they were free with the exhaust) as being a pre-facelift it sits 20mm higher than a facelift car would. I have a Haldex service kit, rear differential oil and oil for the gearbox and "angle drive" AKA transfer box.

I replaced the ABS unit when I got the car but the plug broke - I hope my random ABS faults now and again are the plug not making an amazing connection - took a long time to find the right part number to buy just the plug on its own, which is on its way from my local Skoda dealer.

I've got a full PCV hose kit as that is shot, and a timing belt kit with water pump etc to do. Also picked up some factory facelifted Xenon lamps with titanium inserts and have those to fit with some new ballasts and bulbs.

Once I've all that sorted I'll get some painting done as the peeling on the roof and I've got a 225 front bumper with headlight washers to go on, and a USDM rear bumper as well. On the lookout for some 18" B6 S4 AVUS replicas in 5x100 too biggrin

I love it!

It's gone away to be kept dry in a mate's shed for a while as I'm mad busy with work and I'll get the bits and pieces done from there when time allows (and money!)

Looks lovely that! Will look forward to seeing more updates.

They do look brilliant, as good, or better than they came out, such a neat design.

I've been looking at the idea of one at some point as a weekend car, they seem amazing value at the moment.

There's a quattro sport for sale at the moment just over 5k, there is some things wrong, so may not be ideal!

Just no where to store it!

Brake parts for the TT aren’t expensive
You obviously haven't looked at the price of front discs for a 3.2

Correct. I should have said 180 and 225 brakes, no idea on the V6. Leon CR Brembos aren’t cheap now either.

That’s a big old to do list on top of the already done list.
What made you go for a 180 rather than a 225? Was it based on price of the car you found or something else?
