I had a bit of a blast in the Boxster a week or so ago. I did notice some juddering or vibration when braking. Recently I have just been pottering around and there is no judder even when braking firmly. I had a similar thing a few years in a cheap Renault run about I had which turned about to be a sticky calliper leaving the brake pad pushed up against the disc which then made it hot. You only noticed the judder once the disc had some heat in it. So I will be monitoring temps using my calibrated finger. I'm hoping its something simple anyway.

Niggles ongoing
Stiff / Indecisive gear change
Brake Judder when pressing on
Not sure about the boomy exhaust
Rattle or clunking from rear of the car which sounds like something is loose
Only 1 Key and it is disintegrating
Bonnet doesn't pop up when you open it so you have to pinch the edges by the head lights with your finger nails

Loving
987 seats
Super light - almost too light - clutch pedal
Looks brilliant with the hard top on and I can see out the back now

Can we chat seats, quickly?

Same as you, I guess, I’m tired of feeling I sit on the car (in my case, an early 996 with just reach adjust steering). I’m also fairly tall, which compounds the issue.

Would you take - cost notwithstanding - the 9x7 seats over say a Pole Position? Purely talking driving position, not access to rear, aforementioned cost etc.

We can move this chat to my 996 thread if you want to be absolutely correct. But either way I have never sat in a pole position. I did buy some full on fixed buckets for my 996 but these are still sat gathering dust. Just the cost of runners and fittings is more than I paid for the 997 seats. Lets not get confused as I bought some 987 seats for the 986 and some 997 seats for the 996. I'm still not sure if they are the same as I definitely feel even lower in the 996 but that could just be a difference in the body's respected floors. If you want to have a sit in my car then let me know.

Yay.
Weather now looks excellent
Thanks for taking the hit on that I was starting to get a bit soggy. Please don't take off hard top
Another scorching hot (or reasonably sunny) day here.

Lithium battery news

Side not over and above the below. I've been poking around in a couple of 996 recently under the scuttle panel and then looking at my Boxster and comparing I've finally realised how absolutely pristine and brand new everything looks under there. I still get pangs of regret that I'm just ruining all this pristineness but that's what happens to cars. I bought it with the intention of using it like this so that is what I'm doing.

So back to the battery I'm just copying and pasting this from my 996 thread so apologies about that.....

My first Lithium Ion Battery has arrived.
Decided to try it out in the Boxster first because the 996 doesn't have an MOT, oops. It was a bit late when I got round to doing this and dark obviously. I'm a sucker for putting things off till tomorrow so decided to strike while the iron is hot, whatever that means.

So battery works absolutely fine, no surprises there I guess although it's still unexpected the first time you turn the key and that tiny battery starts the car. Is this a valid test, not sure. I guess living with the battery for a while and seeing how it copes with occasional use is more Interesting.

Let's talk about the fitting or lack of fitting. I was only intending to just do a few starts to get some confidence in the battery. But then thought what the hell let's just leave it in there for a few days.

I've removed the heavy metal battery tray from beneath. I'm not sure what purpose this serves other than to hold the battery. It does have a seal beneath it which is either to prevent moisture from going through onto the electric connectors on top of the tank or to prevent petrol vapour from rising, both just guesses on my part.

Let me know if you think I need to replace it or I can live without it.

I will consider some better options for a more rigid fit. Chime in with any ideas.

I've had lithium batteries in my last couple of bikes and I've been really impressed with the weight, how well they hold charge etc. and I'd considered one for the Boxster but my main concern wasn't the starting but the hood operation; does the Li battery seem to cope with that alright??

Why would it not, do you think it doesn't have juice to complete the job?

I cant test it myself because I have the hard top on right now.

How many times do you put the hood up or down without the engine running? In that case the battery is neither here nor there really.

I'm interested to see how it copes with occasional use ATM, my car gets used probably once a week or so but does get left for maybe 3 weeks at a time without being started. How much does the new Li-Ion battery weigh and how much does it cost?

I do think you need to review your fixtures though!

I'm not so worried about leaving the car for periods of inactivity because these cars shut down and you need to use the key in the door lock to wake them up. So during this time the theory is it will use no or very little power. My 981 is different because even after 2 months if I press the button on the key it reacts so no shutting down. It also has a truly massive AGM battery too but thats another story for another day....

My only experience is with bikes but generally the Li batteries have good CCA for starting but not so good Amp/hrs for running accessories etc.
Obviously the roof only takes 10secs to put up/down, so it's not a long-term/constant drain but I just wondered how it seemed in real world usage.

That's a good point, I essentially never put the roof up/down without the engine running...

Boxster RTS is like Rocking Horse Sh*t multiplied by Hens Teeth - they occasioanlly swap hands for far, far more than I was willing to pay for the novelty of going biking in my Boxster once or twice rather than the estate car.

Cool bit of kit!

I've never seen one in the Wild. Have you?

Totally frivolous purchase on my part but why the hell not. I remember drooling of the Porsche accessories catalogue when I had my first Boxster in 2004. This was obviously in there.

It just seems like something the Porsche engineers put together as an after thought because maybe one of them rode a bike - no idea.
