So I've reassembled the hardtop seals. I'm hoping this really means it is now water tight. I'm not holding my breath. I just need an assistant now to help me put it on the car. I did get an offer today from a friend but it had just started raining and for some reason I have in the back of my mind not to do it when the soft top is damp. Not sure why. Probably an old wive's tale.

Good job there.
I have a new back box to fit and considering doing it myself. I may see if I can borrow some ramps.

I did mine solo with the bumper in situ. I got the car high enough to be able to lay underneath it with the exhaust on my hips so I could then thrust them up to hold it in position.

Should have filmed it so we could see the hip thrust technique smile

So I've decided the leak has been fixed. I've been keeping an eye on it the last couple of weeks and no water ingress that I can see. I'm quite pleased as the leak was annoying me. I've always wanted a 986 with hardtop and then I finally buy one and it leaks. Now when I look at the car I see a nice car rather than a leaky turd. I'm trying to get it booked in with my spray guy as he also does buffing and ceramic coating. I'm hoping that as he is a great sprayer he will hopefully be good at the other stuff too.

Looks like I need a new one of these for the driver side.

If you're not a serious Porsche nerd you might not realise what this is.

Feel free to have a guess.

Well obviously it’s a pull, pushy thing. Not sure what the German translation is though?

Yes

Like a good old fashioned push bike brake cable.

Looks great - keep looking at cheap 986s and as inevitably happens my budget creeps and then om looking at 987s, then Caymans and then I go fill circle and start looking at almost shed-money mk1 TTs! Definitely need a new toy to play with though...

I knew I wanted a 986. Don't assume a 987 is better.

Just been rebuilding my drivers door internals. Got a replacement cable pull for the interior door handle which had somehow jammed inside and stopped working. Also fitted a brand new microswitch to the exterior door handle. So the window drops correctly now and everything else working as expected. I've still got to refit the vapour barrier correctly and the door card. I called it a day after I damaged my hand. This is what happens when you have your hand inside the door while jiggling the lock mechanism and the car thinks you want to lower the windows. As my hand started to get crushed I assumed it would realise and stop moving the window but No, it just got worse and worse. Doesn't look that bad and glad I was wearing good gloves but it is hurting and now I'm grumpy.

I always find myself wandering if I should use a mechanic or do this stuff myself. Feels silly taking the car to a mechanic just to fix the door lock or door latch or door handle stuff.

When you have the time and right tools it is good fun with a sense of achievement should your chosen mission be successful.

Ok so the brand new genuine Porsche microswitch on the outside door handle was working fine. I refitted the interior door card and the inside microswitch was working fine. Just drove the car and noticed the outside microswitch has stopped working again.

Today I learnt that Recaro SPG do not fit in a Boxster if you are taller than 4 foot
