Following on from https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... I have decided I'm still not done with Subaru. The itch is back.
For anyone interested, the previous Legacy I had was a BP5. This is a 4th generation built between 2003 and 2009. It was quite thirsty and a few things annoyed me with it, crack in the dash, headunit/nav not working but it was a fun car to own. I sold it mostly because it was a very easy sale and I made a few quid for nothing. It also felt a tad dated.
Afterwards I moved onto a Citroen C5 https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... which is a lovely car, don't get me wrong, just a bit dull, which I hate to admit my friend Kitchski warned me of.
A few months ago I started chatting to an importer about the BR9 Legacy. This is the 5th generation, built between 2009-2012. It's a JDM car only, with a 2.5 turbo discussed here https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-spottedykywt/s...
We bid on a few, missing out by a few hundred quid here and there until I managed to grab this one.
107km, grade 4 Legacy GT on its way to me as we speak. ETA is about 12-14 weeks due to delays in Japan. Then I need to get it registered here, and then sell the C5. Hoping to have it on the road by the end of the year. I went for another auto as I just like an auto for daily use. Originally I wanted heated leather and eyesight but have knocked both those on the head for this one as it looked so good. Leather has been horrible this last few weeks anyway!
Fingers crossed this one remains for a while!
It also comes with a 2nd set of wheels, which are shrink wrapped in the boot. I'm assuming they are the originals but we'll find out. Wish me luck.

Can't say I love the.looks of the newer ones, but still, I hear it's a good car. I wonder what's the handling like? Or if they are much heavier in the bends?
I have a BP5 twinscroll, and agree, they are getting a bit long in the tooth. Very capable cars though. Not sure what I'll replace it with when I do. Possibly one of these, but also got a bit of an itch for one of those ugly Subaru Exiga imports.

Having previously owned and sold a JDM Legacy, I've also gone back to a Legacy as a family car, mine is a 3.0 B spec R. It's a bit tatty and leggy, but given that these days I'm working from home and only doing a few thousand miles per year it's a good stop gap.
As much as I like the manual box and N/A engine, I do miss the power from the twinscoll.

The twinscroll was a lovely smooth engine, but lacked any real noise. The H6 in yours has a great noise I believe and the 2.5 in my new one has the classic Subaru sound, which should make quite a difference. Economy is better too with high 30s achievable. The H6 is a great engine, even at 130k miles it's incredibly smooth. Mine could so with a bit more noise, but as a stopgap car I don't want to spend too much on it, and it's already got a stainless exhaust. It's a bit thirsty though. Cambs_Stuart said:

This I too believe. I had the 2.5 in that Hawkeye and it was a lovely engine, shame about the rest of the car. I don't think this version of the engine suffers from the same issue of chocolate rings.Looks are marmite it seems. Most in the legacy groups don't like the look, personally I don't see much difference. Only negative is the loss of pillarless doors.

I don't think I mentioned it specifically, but it seemed that roughly car price plus shipping fees is subject to a 10% import tax. Adding this all together, including the tax is subject to 20% VAT, and then any extra fees on top from the importer for registration etc. Someone might be along to straighten this up. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

£5000 Legacy. +
£500 shipping/docking fee. +
£550 10% import tax. +
£1300 20% VAT. +
£500 Imorter fee. =
Your £5k car will cost £8k to get here, and that's being pretty conservative.
I was looking to get a Toyota Crown imported, but ultimately I worked out that I'd be spending nearly £4.5k over its price to get it on the road in the UK.
Not sure how I missed this earlier, but I'm a fan of these having recently sold a 2013 GT wagon with the 6-sp manual. Readers Cars thread here...

In short, just about the best do-it-all car I've owned and really didn't want to sell it, but just wasn't big enough for us any more. Awesome car, not perfect, just brilliant and so much more than numbers suggest.

I got some more pre boat photos sent over today, which I'm pleased about. Not overly convinced by the wheels that are on it, but they do have Bridgestone tyres which is nice.

But has a surprise in the boot. Potentially the original alloys?
Seems to have a few add ons which will need to be removed. Assuming toll stuff?
Looks totally unmolested and it's only done 107km
Really hope it's as good as it looks. Potentially only one key which is a shame, and didn't end up with leather, heated seats or eyesight as I originally wanted but decided to sacrifice them as this one looked so genuine. Can't wait.

That does indeed look very clean! The white paint is a weird metallic, almost pearlescent that never looks completely clean, but also seems to hide dirt like silver paint. So, pluses and minuses there 
Not sure those wheels suit it, but the tyres are the right size for the originals so they haven’t been changed to anything odd.
I don’t know what year yours is, but the dash looks like it’s pre-2012 - doesn’t matter as it’s only some minor tinkering between the two.
The sound system and screen deserve to be binned if you’ve got the cash though (sell the wheels…??) There are much better systems out there!
Of the stuff you’ve missed out on, I didn’t enjoy the Eyesight system I tried, and the leather seats I did have needed frequent wiping to stop them squeaking. Cloth and no Eyesight is a good combo.
All in all, good stuff - look forward to seeing more when you get hold of it!

It's been quite good fun tracking the ships location, I've been watching it cross the Mediterranean sea and then up the coast of Portugal. It's now in the Bristol channel, docking in an hour. Mine is due off at Newcastle on the 5th, really wanted it into Southampton as I live there but wasn't possible to get a slot.
Really hope the DVLA pull their finger out so I can register it before Christmas!
