Yet more legacy

It's been a little over 4 months since it went and saw the tame Subaru specialist, and about 7000km. At it's last service in October it was mentioned about the top mounts needing replacing, but the parts were out of stock at the time. Martin had them on backorder for me, and advised about a month ago that they had now arrived. As mentioned previously in the thread, I also ordered the new springs from Japan given the car would be apart it seemed like a reasonable time to swap them over.
The old top mounts were totally perished upon removal, unfortunately no pics, but new are now in place. Whilst with him he also popped a little grease on the inverted bearings to cure a little movement, which apparently is a common thing with Legacy shocks. He did mention that they seemed in good condition although some of the rear bolts were a pain. All bolts were greased upon reassembly.
Otherwise, as it was with him it had an oil and genuine black filter change (Millers CFS 5w40 this time as apparently that's the better weight to use) and swapped the front and rear tyres over for me as they were off anyway.
The only other thing of note is that the rear wishbone bushes and looking a bit tired, so I'll get that done later in the year.
He then returned it to me at the end of the day, ready for the drive home. Once again, it might be placebo, but it just feels so unbelievably smooth through the rev range. I also felt much tighter, which I guess was inevitable with the new springs and mounts. All in all, another successful visit and a big impact. Cost was £411 for all parts and labour, excluding the springs (which cost £400 all in)
And as you can see....totally worth it.....
(Actually, I'm over the disappointment of the lack of drop now, and starting to appreciating the ride quality Vs handling compromise)

Also, shock of shock, I spotted my twin in the wild. There are not many of these in the country, yet one pulled out of the services as I drove past tonight! Nods were exchanged.

This car has just popped up on my ongoing search for an interesting petrol replacement for my diesel E-Class..
Bit older than I want but its low miles. What do you think? I'll be honest, its the autoboxes mainly that have put me off Subarus for years.

I had a much older 5 speed auto box in a gen 4 twinscroll, and I found it far better than the 6 speed DSG that was fitted to the VW that followed. Later Subaru boxes with flappy paddles and SI drive are supposed to be even better. So I'd recommend taking it for a drive and seeing what you think. Bit older than I want but its low miles. I guess I should. Current car is a 7gTronic Merc which is a distinctly non-sporty, but very good transmission. It was going back to 5 speeds that way maybe putting me off but with a wider rpm range in a petrol maybe its not so bad.
This short segment of video makes me wonder whether it might be a better transmission than I'm giving it credit for, looks repsonsive!

I imported one of these last year, my first auto...trepidatious to say the least, but it's actually quite good now I'm used to it.This short segment of video makes me wonder whether it might be a better transmission than I'm giving it credit for, looks repsonsive!

i mode is dire though, so I just run it in Sport normally...Sport+ and manual paddle really lights a fire under it and it gets a shimmy on.
Well that's the end of my Legacy ownership this time around. It left tonight with the same guy who had my last one.
I'm absolutely gutted but things have changed so much over the last 2 years since I purchased it, with mortgage rates and household bills etc, costs need to be cut somewhere. Whilst fuel economy wasn't the biggest killer (28ish, premium fuel) having a loan payment for it too was hurting. My costs to get too and from work were circa £360 a month when you include the loan, more if you spread the cost of servicing, tax, insurance etc.
So for now I'm going to be using the little blue Picasso shed which we've owned since 2019. Obviously there is no loan payments each month now which instantly saves £200, and then fuel costs should be halved, down to maybe £80/100 a month.

The bug will never leave you. I sold my fun car 3 years ago for money reasons, miss having one dearly.
Your time will come again. Mine has, but I don't know what to buy. Was following you because I was considering a Legacy as a compromise, rather than an SUV and something else.
