Great reference! ^^

Thos morning I popped into the indy and took the workshop manager for a drive. They hear the noise and want it in for a smoke test. I’ll see where we go from here, as they’re really nice guys and approachable, but at £150/hr it’s a hefty sum, should the hours rack up…

At least he felt the love for the L322 and eulogised about the interior as though he’d never seen one before.

£150/hour is seriously punchy. Do you know what Tom Lenthall were? If they anticipate quite a few hours would it not be cheaper to find a local outside of London that may be £100/hour? Could save quite a chunk of cash.

This lot are quite far away from you but I know you like a road trip

https://www.iansimltd.co.uk/

They seem to be well thought of locally.
My experience of them only extends to some significant welding and an MOT on a rusty BMW 530d!

Michael I have just spent two evenings reading through this thread and it is a superb read. Hopefully the manifold issue will not be too expensive for you. It's great the way that your threads are car related and a travelogue built into one.
I have been looking at these now and may take the plunge if a nice one comes up at sensible money. Not sure if I will go petrol or diesel but the complexity of the diesel is maybe more bork prone and my annual mileage would be less than 8000pa so petrol may be the way. Need a ride in yours sometime when we meet up maybe?

Nice to hear from you. The trip to France and the Outer Hebrides were fantastic in this big old thing.

I’ll aim to bring it to the next Bicester Scramble if you’re around and you can take it for a spin. It’s large and lolloping, spacious and luxurious.

Definitely go for a Jag-engined petrol one then. smile

How can I tell if it has the Jaguar engine or BMW engine? I believe it changed in 2005.

If you look at the tech spec there is a slight difference in capacity.
Jaguar 4394cc.
BMW 4398cc.

Anything supercharged is Jaguar. 4.2 to start, later 5.0.

Generally, it’s 2006-2008 with the facelift headlights that encroach into the slab grille.

Not as much as people fear. You need to be handy though otherwise it’ll cost a lot for even basic tithings.

Yup.

Handy with spanners & patient with faults & they are tolerable.

If you are the kind of person who doesn’t enjoy car maintenance & want to have trouble free garage-service-to-garage-service motoring then I’d look to another brand & vehicle.

Not as common with the 4.4, particularly when the updated pipework is fitted to stop the oil buildup issue.

£150/hour for an indy is mental. Is it in Kensington?

When you can see a Bayley & Sage in the background of the workshop shot, you know you’re in trouble.

For such a lengthy job it'd possibly be cheaper to drive it to Edinburgh!

£96 ph inc vat for Labour.
Or £180 ph inc vat for Labour.

Almost getting 2 hours for the price of 1 by going further north…
Although, fuel up and back, plus a hotel etc would eat into that.
