Nothing. But in a good way.

2000 miles in January, mostly motorway pounding between Thamesport, Southampton & Somerset.

Hasn’t put a foot wrong & I love it!

good news that the car is just ticking along

before you bought did you use any guides or reviews to tell you about the potential issues. if there are any?

This was my search, did loads of L322 research & ended up with an L405. I found the L405 felt much more car like & nimble in comparison.

I chose to buy from a good independent luxury car dealer with a 12 month warranty that proved to be worth it. I deliberately avoided the main dealers as my local one is only interested in flogging PCP’d new cars.

I finally got around to doing the gearbox oil change the other day. The filter is the same as any JLR 8 speed ZF filter. Mine comes with a Jaguar sticker on the side.

Used a 2 post ramp at a friend’s garage.
Not essential but damned helpful!

That’s every oil & filter changed in the car now.

80000 miles now.
Perfectly behaved.

Averaging 34 mpg on a run & 28 kicking about locally.

These videos tell the story of the oil changes better than I can & I used them to help me.

There’s more there but these are the oily ones.

MOT today.

Straight through but will need to do front lower arms at some point. More than OK for MOT but will need doing in the next 12 months.

I have it MOT’d at Country Rovers who are a Land Rover specialist as I know they’ll let me know about up-coming issues I may have missed servicing myself.

Crazy that this huge V8 diesel gets the same mpg as my 2.2 diesel Freelander 2. (Sd4 auto)

It went to my valeter (Xceed Valeting near Taunton) and Gareth did his magic.

As I had my film camera out for Goodwood Revival I took some pictures:

I’d forgotten the joys of manual focus cameras.

Minolta SRT-101, skylight filter, Kodak Gold expired 2003 film for those who are interested.

After watching these people on YouTube & thinking about things I decided to change to 5W40 C-3 as it can’t really do any harm.

https://youtu.be/Q4NeJrbor4s?si=5XocokDPaQjp9ZrL

So 6000 mile interim oil change completed.

Nothing untoward to report, cut the filter open & nothing in there at all.

Castrol Edge 5W40 filled.

A trigger warning for TDV6 owners!

Over at a friend’s workshop earlier this TDV6 3.0 from an XJ (X351).

This engine came out a while ago, but look at that crack!
Car was running.

Luckily it’s been caught before it broke.

Err, Stick Legs, that’s not going to help this owner of a 103,000 mile SDV6 sleep soundly at night!

Lovely looking Sport there.

There is a lot known about these now
My mate has rebuilt loads and they almost always give some hints of letting go early

I highly recommend watching LR Time on YouTube.
Lots of good engineering & common sense.

They are always repairable.

Any tips on what the signs of letting go are?

From what I've been reading, most of the crank shaft issues tend to be accompanied by low oil levels. And the oil sensor warning doesn't actually come on until it's very low.

Owners are suggesting to check oil levels regularly and top up even just a squirt at a time. Each incremental level on the reading means add 125ml as I understand it.

Aside from that, lovely car you have. I'm not allowed one due to the size (missus will also be driving it) but we're about to jump into a RRS which I've put a deposit on. My priority was electric towbar but it's a bonus that it comes with silver wheels, 20 inch. I think we share similar taste in that regard.

I just like the classic look to go with the classic shape. If I was allowed to get a FFRR, I also would have went for a similar one to yours, either silver grey or black....or maybe that champagne colour which is nice. They say that BMW is the ultimate driving machine but we all know its Range Rover that really hold that title smile

My brothers boss has a Discovery 4 sdv6, broken crank writing the engine off. His had been massively over filled with oil.

New boots:

Goodyear Wrangler Dura Trac.
255/55 20.

Will report on how they perform but a initial observation is that they are a little noiser, but not intrusive.

Great car. Love it.

Any update on the costs for the past year and how they compare with your first year with the car?
