Picked it up today.

Got off the ship in North Shields, drove a hire car to Woking to pick up the RR from Twelve London Road Woking.
Great service; rather impressed with their attitude & behaviour. Everything we discussed was done plus a bit more. Friendly & professional.

Went home via the A303, the Range Rover was a joy to drive & best of all made 34.5mpg and I wasn’t being careful.

Stopped at Fleet services, my first but not last tailgate picnic!

Watching with interest as I've been long tempted by an L405, I previously did have an L322 and emerged largely unscathed despite LR reputation. I'm debating whether to settle for pre 2017, or push the budget and go 2017 onward, the main difference seems to be the in car nav / screen controls which were upgraded for model yr 2017. I've read, though not experienced that the pre 2017 systems are slow and glitch prone, so I'd be keen to know how you get on with this...

Lovely looking car. Like you I'm seeing most of the available cars that hit the right spec at independents, I'd prefer LR with the warranty, but stock in the right spec is rare and / or expensive.

also watching with interest and I'm hoping that the new generation RRS and FFRR puts a 405 within my reach.

I'm that sad I'm going to save your thread in my bookmarks - can't get enough content on them.

This YT channel looked promising but it's been 4 months since his upload so I suspect that his range rover has died left him standed and now he's fighting for his survival and forraging on a high street somewhere...

That’s good to know.
I’ve joined & kept my same username as on here as I think there are a few of us on both.
Thanks.

First day.

Sorted out all the paperwork, ordered the original sales brochure from eBay & reshelled both keys.

For nostalgia purposes I am still using an HA Fox Cheltenham Jaguar KeyRing that came on one of my Dad’s cars, it’s been on all my British cars & is just ‘my’ key fob.

Key reshelling was simple, as per this video:

https://youtu.be/_S7wK9pW2c4

I used a screwdriver heated over a tea light to melt the pins over, but even if you didn’t it’s all pretty snug in there.

Thought I’d check in after my first 1000 miles.

No issues, no warning lights or odd behaviours.
Have started changing all the fluids, and will be doing the diffs, gearbox & transfer case next time home.

I gave it booked in to my local LR dealer for a tow bar to be fitted next month.

Really really happy with it. 30mpg and superbly comfortable.

As an aside I spotted my old P38 today, still in use as a field car at a local livery by the looks of it as SORN since last year.

Good stuff,

If you're happy to answer. what are the rough cost of replacing all the fluids etc

Did you have it done at a specialist? the way you've phrased it suggests doing it yourself which if so thats very cool.

Diff & Transfer box require removing some skid plates / shields and are simple enough to do on your drive if you are skinny or not too clautrophobic!

14mm hex socket removes the fill and drain plugs. Lots of people recommend new plugs but I'll clean mine up in some diesel and used Loctite 242 blue to reseal them.

Transfer case:
1.5 litres, and only 1.5 litres, I will not fill to the fill plug as this isn't advised,
Use only Land Rover special transfer case oil which I got from Smith Allen lubricants: TF0753 / LRN0753.
£30.00, Smith Allen via their eBay shop.

Diffs:
EP75x90 Fully synthetic GL-4. Filled to the height of the fill plug. Just over a litre in each diff, I bought 3 litres and should have a bit left over.
Looking forward to this job, Gear oil smells great at 6 years and 60k!
£30.00 local Autofactors.

Dynamic Response oil:
Couldn't find a drain for this and taking to my local specialist he said it's not really possible to drain it fully without disassembling the system, so I have been sucking out the header tank and re filling it once a week and it's getting clearer, less black more honey coloured.
Dexron DIII is an emergency fill but I have used Texaco CC 33270 which is the spec of the Land Rover specific DRS Fluid.
The filter is in the bottom of the header tank and looks clean so I have left it well alone.
£27.98 for 2 litres, from Westway lubricants on Amazon.

I found all this out by surfing on the internet and FullFatRR.com as well as YouTube.

I am getting the gearbox done at Bristol Transmissions for £450 as they are well trusted locally and only an hour from me.
That £450 includes a new genuine pan and is a simple drop it off in the morning pick it up in the afternoon service.

£537.98 plus some of my time for a lot of piece of mind.

I also noticed some minor corrosion on the steel brackets underneath so have bought a Lanoguard spray to spot treat these bits, the rest of the underside looks really good. I'll take some pictures next time I'm tinkering to help others.

Car looks fab (small wheels and untinted windows ftw), good to hear it's actually quite straight-forward to service too.

So, waiting for the DVLA to get my V5c back so I could put my plate on it...

...apparently I now own a Porsche!

Due to a bit of sloppy handwriting on the V62 I now have a V5 for LG15LHA, a Black Porsche which given it is a 3.0 diesel I guess is a Cayenne?

I rang the DVLA and they said to write a covering letter & return the V5c to them. They reckon 10 weeks to sort.

Presumably someone with a Porsche Cayenne will shortly be ringing to ask why they got a 'congratulations you are no longer liable for this vehicle' slip through the post and will no doubt end up with another owner being added to their car's history.

Fun fun fun!

In the meantime, what has happened to the legitimate owner of the Porsche? If he tries to sell it, his V5C will no longer be valid. I guess he can now speed past cameras with impunity as you'll be on the hook for it, so every cloud has a silver lining.

Still no V5c but I have got home to see how it’s behaving.

Whilst I was at sea Mrs.Stick Legs has been using it & managed to do 30mpg average in the 3 weeks I was away.
She has fallen with in love with it.

So while all is going well I bought a DA polisher & gave it a polish.
I also removed the trim panel (which was peeling as they do) at the top of the bonnet & sprayed it with a rattle can of Atlas grey which makes it look much smarter.

Treated her to a new set of Pirelli Scorpion Verde’s as the mismatched (in terms of wear) set on there were a bit tatty.

Oh! And new floor mats from Overfinch, who sell some NOS Land Rover stuff from their site, presumably removed from ‘upgraded’ cars.

Looks great, I'm no clear glass evangelist but there's something just right about it, especially on a RR.

Thank you. I specifically looked for one with small wheels & clear glass. ‘Princess Anne’ spec as a friend of mine called it.

There wasn’t much movement on the price as the market was quite bouyant. I’m happy with the deal I got that involved some fuel & tax.

Not got up to much really.
Haven’t had to.

Not done the oils yet as been very busy with builders but have been using it a lot.
It’s a very very good car. And been returning 30mpg which I am delighted with.

It’s not great to drive in the conventional sense, but if you get the right speed on the right road it flows very well. Of all the cars I have driven it reminds me most of an XJ40 rather than any previous Range Rover.

I have been nerdy & completed quite a collection of ephemera for it. Including the presentation key box as well as obligatory sales brochure & road tests.

If anyone has a Hunters of Guildford dealer window sticker that would be fab!
