Enjoying watching the continual improvements

The wheels look really well.. Tyres still need a good scrubbing in, I've covered a huge 8 miles in them so far
Nothing needed to be done with it currently bar updating the nav software, just waiting for the USB to land in the post

Your car looks ace on the new wheels. The colour suits the car loads too.
Cheers, I really love the contrast of bright, shiny wheels in a dark car...Platinum Silver is a great colour, it really pops, but isn't 'blingy' if that makes sense?
The spacers have the wheels sitting perfectly too IMO

They look absolutely spot on for sure.
I continue my search, Dan. I've set the bar too high as I have been spoiled with soft close doors, HUD and active rear-wheel steering. It seems the car I had previously was quite rare and it breaks my heart to think of how little I let it go for.
Have you considered mapping? I mapped a previous 525d (which I think is the same engine as the 730) and it was night and day. It just smooths things out and builds torque nicely for rapid overtakes. Any economy of course was out the window as it was never driven for economy
At the same time, I updated the software which if I remember rightly did something to the gearbox software and it was just sublime. A guy turned up at my workplace, sat in the car for a bit, sent the map to his base, they played with it, sent it back, uploaded and job jobbed.

With all the work I put into my previous touring and the condition it was in; I measured a lot of cars against that when I was looking...
The only reason I bought this 730D is because it'd been used well; looked after (to a degree) and the price was agreed on the basis that I sorted the bodywork (which I've done, nearly...); otherwise I'd have come home & carried on looking...
Re mapping; no, not thought about it. I don't do the miles to make it worthwhile IMO plus with it being diesel and with the low down torque it has; it's already much more powerful than my previous E39 and makes overtaking a doddle, when needed
The engine & box are ultra smooth and for now; more than happy with it...
Never say never though

That's fair. And you're bang on about the milage. WHen I had mine I was doing north of 20k a year. These days I'm lucky if I'm doing 8k a year. When you think about it that way it's probably overkill to have another 7 just for it to do school runs. Clearly I should re-align my sights and just buy something ballistic. With all the work I put into my previous touring and the condition it was in; I measured a lot of cars against that when I was looking...

I'd offer to help scrub the tyres in, but as mentioned in my thread I don't do many miles myself!!
I'm sure you'll find something that needs your touch at some point though it's a nice feeling when the 'to do' list is about empty.
Maps updated yesterday via Rusty at satnavupgrades.co.uk
Confirmed all by email and sent the USB in the post
Plugged in and it updated within about 40mins and now I've the latest 2022 map software running
Washed and buffed this morning alongside the Racing Jazz too

Looking good Dan!
Hope you’re well!
Been looking at these myself of late! The 335i isn’t ideal (with rising fuel costs) on my commutes these days!
Cheers pal; all good thanksHope you’re well!

The F01 is a superb car; some good examples of the E65 730D about too, personally I'd stick with the F01 though if you can, just make sure it's been looked after & properly maintained
Your 335i touring will sell easy enough IMO; they rarely crop up now!

Yeah there’s a lot of high milers about it. Not put off to be fair by miles. Ideally want a car for what my 335i would sell for. As in process of trying to move homes, so don’t need the extra car finance coming up. Otherwise I wait until we move, already sold it once, but the buyers pulled out 4 weeks after sale was agreed, and we had somewhere lined up.

Never heard that before, what does the yellow dot have to do with the balancing, not being funny, just curious
No problem - no such thing as a silly question For most tyre manufacturers - Yellow dot should be placed adjacent to the tyre valve - I think if red and yellow dot on tyre the Red Dot should be placed next to tyre valve as it take priority over the yellow (It just cuts down on the amount of weight needed to balance the wheel and tyre combination)
Basically google your tyre manufacturers instructions so you know what to tell the fitter when he fits new tyres
I'm very seriously considering another 7 this year, I've had a couple of E65's before. How are you finding it overall so far? The 2 things that put me off another E65 is constant small issues and most of them being laughably low spec (No heated seats, no electric folding mirrors etc). Yours looks seriously nice and spot on spec wise

Car drives superbly, no balancing issues or wobbles at all

If you've the budget for an F01, go for an F01 palThe E65 I had was lovely; but the constant niggles and lack of trust in it put me off them for life... Even the 750i (that's still for sale in Clitheroe) gave me cause for concerns. It had all the necessary mechanical work done that the V8 needs; but those old electronics that were fancy back then, but now a pain in the arse, worried me too much (and it was basic spec too, only heated seats etc)
Mine does have a very good spec; one of the main reasons why I went for it... Bodywork and suspension stuff can be sorted easy enough; but a bulletproof engine and great interior/spec were key for what I wanted, more so as it was replacing a nigh on immaculate/perfect E39 touring!
There are some good spec'd F01s out there currently on eBay & AT

Front wheels off; brake calipers wire brushed in readiness for painting; wheel arches scrubbed to within an inch of their lives and coated/wiped down with G303 Aerospace protectant
Calipers painted with E-Tech silver enamel paint using the sponge applicators (leaves a much smoother finish; saw Sreten of @M539_Restoratioins fame do this to the calipers on his E46 Touring)

I'll be doing the rears sometime next week
