Not much to update. Cars nearly at 118k miles now and no work has been needed on the cart in the last few months . The power steering pump is still being noisy but it works fine - its something to look at when the weather gets warmer. The drivers side window has also stopped dropping when the handle is pulled up so that needs looking at too - I think the non OEM regulator i installed last year has gone funny, but the window does still go up and down as normal when the switch is pressed

The cars been used for commuting to work and transporting a bicycle round on the odd weekend - iv got to say you do get some funny looks with a bike on the roof

Not sure if plans of a European road trip with the car will happen this year as I'm looking to purchase a house, I'm in the fortunate position where I can purchase a house and keep the car but I'll need to limit the amount of trips away in the car as a good way of saving money

Attended Cars and Coffee Liverpool last weekend. A really good selection of cars and the weather stayed decent which always helps.

There was a few rather cool cars there:

This was based on a modern Boxster - a really impressive car

Iv had a few issues with my exhaust and the valves sticking open so iv got anew exhaust coming next week so will get round to fitting that soon, hopefully it will sort the problems that the current exhaust has

New exhaust came this week so last Sunday was spent removing the old one so I can install the new one this weekend .

Its impressive how the rear end of the car all goes together and how the mufflers sit behind the rear tyres

I get an odd view out the office window now

Ready for the new exhaust to go on this weekend. Ill change spark plugs whilst I'm there and iv got new bolts and new exhaust clamps to go on too

All parts had arrived by the weekend so I spent Sunday cracking on with getting the car back together.
Here are the exhaust spacers and anti vibration shims

And here's with them installed into the exhaust bracket

And then the bracket attached onto the exhaust so that it can mount onto the car

Whilst the exhaust was off it made sense to change the spark plugs as its so much easier when there's no exhaust on the car. Here's the access you have with the exhaust off, still feels strange having the cylinder head on the side of the engine

New vs old spark plugs:

The old ones had only been in 18k miles so didn't really need doing but no harm in it.

Exhaust now on:

Test run up over Belmont

I'm very happy with the new exhaust, build quality definitely feels better than the old one. Sound better too. In the quiet setting its got a really nice tone and a slight rasp at higher rpms. Then in loud mode its similar but louder and deeper.

nice one - im a little annoyed you didnt spray that braket though tongue out
Now you've mentioned that I'm annoyed that I didn't smile - didn't even cross my mind. I can always do it when the sparkplugs are due next

I weighed up new brackets last time I did the exhaust but the price is beyond a joke. This is for each side:

Something that's been bothering me for a while is the wheels on the car. I like the wheels - they are off a 997 turbo. However, over the last year the diamond cutting finish has started to fail.

I do really like the look of the diamond cut wheels but diamond cut wheels seem to fail after a few years - I don't want to have to keep getting them done every few years - plus you can only re diamond cut wheels a certain amount of times aswell

Iv made the choice to get them done in a solid colour and iv booked them in for the 11th march to be done . I wont reveal the colour yet but it should be less boring than just silver or black

Really enjoyable thread to read and very well documented.

I think I make it out at approx £0.93 per mile in your ownership. To be honest that is not too horrific in the context of my 335i that is throwing up bills and that I have spent money on modifying.
Thank you

If we exclude the cost of the car its 25p a mile in maintance excl mods. And 31p a mile incl mods

Yep, I'd be very tempted to colour match the wheels to the stripe.
Original plan was to colour match the stripe but it was decided that it would be too bright of a gold

We then looked at neodyone gold which is the colour that a lot of oem porche wheels are. However that still seemed a little too bright - I dont want the wheels to stick out too much .

Iv ended up going with Neodyme gold but on a black base and a matt finish - will be the same colour as these wheels (picture doesnt show the colour up great)

The wheel to the right of it is Neodyme gold so you can see how the black base colour does change it.

Mk7.5 GTI. Had it 5 years now, just a bit bored of it.
A 997 definitely wont be as refined as the golf in terms of road noise etc but would be way way more interesting

Great reading and hats off to you for getting stuck in and doing maintenance work yourself, where possible!

I'm hoping to get into a 997 this year. Really want a C4S with WB but more I look as C2S's,more I think I need to keep an open mind!

Ultimately I'll be using as a daily too,so will be going for one that's done some miles, which is fine so long as service history/ maintenance has been carried out when needed!!
Thanks

Prices have dropped a bit so could be a good time to buy.

The more I looked into a C4s the more i wanted to stick with a C2s. The C4S is no quicker to 60 and apparently the 4wd system can be a little clunky and mechanical, plus the C2S is meant to have better steering feel. In terms of a drivers car I personally feel the C2S is a better option

Wheels have gone off to the powder coaters so should hopefully get them back this coming few days - the car currently looks odd on 4 jack stands and no wheels

In other kinda car related news iv ended up putting an offer in for a house this weekend, was walking down the road from my parents house (where I currently live) and there is a house with a garage, a car port and a massive drive big enough for 5 cars with a for sale sign outside. If everything goes well, it should open to opportunity for more projects on the car as id have plenty of dedicated workshop space

Wheels were picked up at the weekend and put straight onto the car, IV got to say I really really like them. Even though they are kinda gold they are subtle and not in your face .

Was a bit of a long process getting them done. I wanted to keep them to an official Porsche colour but neodyme gold was just a little too bright. The decision was made to go with Neodyme gold but with a black base and I also wanted a satin finish

So the wheels were powder coated black, then sprayed gold over the powder coating, then re powder coated with a lacquer and then a satin lacquer sprayed over them. The company that did them was Demon Wheels over in Preston (Lancashire) and I'd highly recommend them if anyone lives this way. They even sourced me centre caps and sprayed them to match for an extremely reasonable price

I know the gold stripe doesn't match, I need to look into getting one that does match , or even removing it all together

Next time (if there is a next time) go with Porsche Weiss Gold, and change your side stripes to match smile
Weiss Gold is a very subtle gold hue.
Here it is on a PH'ers Artic silver Cayman S :

Rick at Highgate House should be able to supply side stripes in Weiss Gold.
I do like that Weiss gold, think it may of been too subtle for the look I was going for

Ill have a look at Highgate House to see if they could match the Vinyl to the wheels

Cars got a trip to Devon this weekend so will be due a service when it gets back (gets done every 7K)

Im going with Millers 10w50 NT+ again. I just wanted to note that if anyone else uses this oil its currently buy 5 litres get one free at Opie oils so its worth a purchase. I ended up with 12 litres for £114

Iv gone with Spyder performance again for all the filters and sump plug etc

The front brake pads are also down to about 1.5mm so they will be swapped at the same time. Iv booked on a local track day in April so atleast I'll have fresh brake pads for that.

Return trip to Plymouth and Cornwall done .

Always surprises me how good this car is at covering long distance , I even got around 27mpg.

I’m gutted I missed the picture opportunity at 120k miles so this is the closest I got :

I always like popping into cheddar gorge if I’m ever near there as it’s a great place to have a look around and drive through the gorge - best part is when exhaust noise echoes all round the gorge .

I have noticed a rattling from the front which is the brake disc heat shield on the front offside brake that’s come loose - something to look at when I service the car in the next few weeks
