Finally got the car up in Scotland to explore the amazing roads up there - only went up as far as Glencoe as didn't have long enough to go right to the top but the roads are still amazing.
Its crazy how you can see for miles in the distance and they are vast long sweeping roads which were empty this time of year.

We manage to just catch the leaves changing on the trees before they all fell off so the scenery was amazing, here is some photos of the trip - didn't get many as was too busy just driving and enjoying the car

Just a quick heads up OP (and any other 996/997 owners reading a great thread) thumbup

The inner coffin arm bolts (which go through the subframe) should not be tightened and torqued up until the car is on it’s wheels and the car sitting at it’s static ride height.

Tightening them before the car is at its static ride height risks the rubber bushes not being able to turn and tearing the rubber section as the coffin arm rotates, but the metal sleeve the rubber is bonded to in the centre of the bush, can’t.
It also creates additional unwanted “stiction” in the suspension as it moves through its travel over bumps etc.

It really is fantastic in Scotland. I've been there twice this year on trips organised by a Scot and he found some fantastic empty and camera-free roads.

As your photos show the scenery isn't bad either!

Not much to update. Cars nearly at 118k miles now and no work has been needed on the cart in the last few months . The power steering pump is still being noisy but it works fine - its something to look at when the weather gets warmer. The drivers side window has also stopped dropping when the handle is pulled up so that needs looking at too - I think the non OEM regulator i installed last year has gone funny, but the window does still go up and down as normal when the switch is pressed

The cars been used for commuting to work and transporting a bicycle round on the odd weekend - iv got to say you do get some funny looks with a bike on the roof

Not sure if plans of a European road trip with the car will happen this year as I'm looking to purchase a house, I'm in the fortunate position where I can purchase a house and keep the car but I'll need to limit the amount of trips away in the car as a good way of saving money

Attended Cars and Coffee Liverpool last weekend. A really good selection of cars and the weather stayed decent which always helps.

There was a few rather cool cars there:

This was based on a modern Boxster - a really impressive car

Iv had a few issues with my exhaust and the valves sticking open so iv got anew exhaust coming next week so will get round to fitting that soon, hopefully it will sort the problems that the current exhaust has

New exhaust came this week so last Sunday was spent removing the old one so I can install the new one this weekend .

Its impressive how the rear end of the car all goes together and how the mufflers sit behind the rear tyres

I get an odd view out the office window now

Ready for the new exhaust to go on this weekend. Ill change spark plugs whilst I'm there and iv got new bolts and new exhaust clamps to go on too

All parts had arrived by the weekend so I spent Sunday cracking on with getting the car back together.
Here are the exhaust spacers and anti vibration shims

And here's with them installed into the exhaust bracket

And then the bracket attached onto the exhaust so that it can mount onto the car

Whilst the exhaust was off it made sense to change the spark plugs as its so much easier when there's no exhaust on the car. Here's the access you have with the exhaust off, still feels strange having the cylinder head on the side of the engine

New vs old spark plugs:

The old ones had only been in 18k miles so didn't really need doing but no harm in it.

Exhaust now on:

Test run up over Belmont

I'm very happy with the new exhaust, build quality definitely feels better than the old one. Sound better too. In the quiet setting its got a really nice tone and a slight rasp at higher rpms. Then in loud mode its similar but louder and deeper.

Now you've mentioned that I'm annoyed that I didn't smile - didn't even cross my mind. I can always do it when the sparkplugs are due next

I weighed up new brackets last time I did the exhaust but the price is beyond a joke. This is for each side:

Something that's been bothering me for a while is the wheels on the car. I like the wheels - they are off a 997 turbo. However, over the last year the diamond cutting finish has started to fail.

I do really like the look of the diamond cut wheels but diamond cut wheels seem to fail after a few years - I don't want to have to keep getting them done every few years - plus you can only re diamond cut wheels a certain amount of times aswell

Iv made the choice to get them done in a solid colour and iv booked them in for the 11th march to be done . I wont reveal the colour yet but it should be less boring than just silver or black

I will never have another set of diamond cut wheels in the UK, for this very reason.

As a consolation (to me, not to you!) yours are the only wheels that I've seen that are as bad as mine!

Really enjoyable thread to read and very well documented.

I think I make it out at approx £0.93 per mile in your ownership. To be honest that is not too horrific in the context of my 335i that is throwing up bills and that I have spent money on modifying.

When I had these done, the finish was called ‘Shadow Chrome’. You had to have a really good, close look to tell that they hadn’t been diamond cut again.
Can’t wait to see what you have chosen though.
