1966 Shelby Cobra 427 tool room recreation (DB427)

Having an aluminium bodied recreation of a 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 built by Dave Brookes.

I'm basing it on CX3049 below.







I've gone for the higher spec 580 bhp Southern Automotive 427 cubic inch side oiler.

Its now a few months off. It should go to the paintshop at the start of the year and then off for a tune/ set up.

This should be awesome, are you sure 580bhp will be enough? Is csx 3049 notable for some reason, or do you just like the look of it? I must admit I find most of the Cobra ‘replicas’ in the PH classifieds pretty unappealing, 17’’ wheels, glitzy paint jobs, urrrrgh!

No it will be period correct and CSX3049 i just like the look of it. Parts used are interchangeable with an original. The aluminium body is dimensionally the same as the original .. so is the chassis etc.

I think it is when you consider the more expensive options across the water.

I paid quite a bit more for the side oiler engine and you need to add paint on top.

That looks amazing! I'd be tempted for it to be clear coated to show the craftsmanship of the body!

Is the body sourced from the same place Kirkham use (Polish ex Mig factory?) or some where else? Something like this would be in my dream garage, though I’m not sure I’d fit in one, 6’ 4’’!

Some have and its tempting however I want to create how they looked in the day and as such none were unpainted

Wow this will be stunning when it's done, 580 hp in that lightweight chassis and body is going to be very lively! Any idea what it should weigh?

Some people are just plain greedy

Owned three Cobra replica's, a AK and two Rams along with a C Type , D Type and Lotus 11

all with serious running gear but nothing close what you are building.

That's what a Cobra should look like and the attention to detail,

I'm excited and it's not even mine

Thats interesting about your Cobra history. I owned an AK too which is what really developed my interest. Pic below. I bought it like that.

Having eclectic taste my interest are all over the place from Austin Seven's ,hot rods and yanks too Italian stuff,

Like you i find it difficult to be content with one type of car,it's like having a incurable desease

That's one good looking AK, Has that no nonesense period serious race look about it with it's low stance,black side pipes and wheels,

and what looks like a black interior,that and the 1966 plate and painted cam covers could be mistaken for the real

deal, More pit lane than wine bar, Nice change from the powder puff glitzy replica's i see about.

Its good I think to have well chosen variety.

I can't take any credit with the way the AK looked, the previous owner Lee Marshall spent a lot of time, money and energy getting it right ... even the oil stained engine

Even cooler because of the period 'side oiler', i've wanted a 63 1/2 Galaxie Fastback for years so appreciate the costs involved in getting a side-oiler outputting >500bhp vs. a custom build on a small block. Will have a Galaxie with a 427 Cammer lump in it one day... Best of luck with the Cobra!
