have you thought about just lacquering the bare shell as something a little different?
Bare aluminium is a tricky one.have you thought about just lacquering the bare shell as something a little different?
If you polish it you then can't lacquer it as there's nothing for the lacquer to hold onto and it just flakes/peels off. However it's a proper pain in the dick to keep polished. Trust me.
If you scour the surface, then lacquer, it just looks like silver paint as the lacquer fills in all the tiny scratches, but it does hold.
On my latest project (bare alu) I'm scouring the metal with a dishwashing scouring pad and leaving it a dull bare/brushed finish and letting it oxidise. I think it looks cool.

sounds interesting...https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Thanks everyone. I have decided to paint it guardsman blue but not sure at the moment where to have it painted as costs vary so much and finding it difficult to know what level of finish to go for. In the day the finish wouldn't have been that good but things have moved on since those days. I'm after an above mid level finish I think. Quotes from £4k to £10k so far.

Thread here if you're interested. Skip to the last two pages if you cba with the whole thing as there's a lot of nerdy techy gumpf and spurious waffle.

I do look at the this and think if leaving in bare metal is OK for a Bizzarrini then surely its ok for mine with a bit of a polish.

To be honest at the moment it would just be good to be able to drive it and not just look at it!
