£1000 Vectra SRI daily shed
Discussion
Bit quiet on the Vectra front, it's just boringly doing its thing - which is great of course!
Did rotate the wheels, to even out the wear last week (making the most of these Bridgestone tyres, before it gets shot with the cheapest ones going come change time)
I came across a "very chewed up" locking wheel nut on the NSF, it ain't coming off at all!! It actually came with X4 spare standard bolts from Vauxhall (very handy) so removed X3 of them and replaced them, bar this knackered one!
Needs heat and some up in the air action, so that will be sorted when it's in for its service in a few 1000 miles.
Not done too many heavy trips in it as of recently - just local kiddies errands, and the office twice a week and the like, have been working away a fair bit (not needing the car) so has just been parked up.

132,000, so 5,000 miles since April completed - I think petrol is still the way to go for me with this mileage, stuck 6 months tax on it, so it's staying for another 6 months
Up early to for another dam tyre issue though, this time loosing air via the bead, simple re-bead should do it.

All go at moment, got a rear numberplate light out!! £3 spent!!
Looks a doddle, so will fit that when it arrives.
Booked in next week for rear pads (while it has some downtime) and to look at that mashed locking nut on the NSF Grrrrrr!
Off to Cornwall end of the month, so that's a good chunk of mileage to add, all good!

Great cars, do way more than you expect them to do, I paid £900 in 2019 and do 2000 miles a month in mine to work and back, it's the lesser engine though the 2.2 direct which famously suffers from leaking hydraulic fuel pumps.
I changed ours for a polish mechanical fuel pump and it's run 30,000 on it and is now E10 compatible
Here it is weekend just gone after some urban exploring in deepest Kent, 192,000 on the clock and climbing fast..

Yes mine is the simpler 1.8 engine, so already E10 compatible.
Good standard cars like you've found out yourself, I wasn't actually after one and never been a VX fan but, it just came up cheap very local to me, so took a punt, and was happy to say bye to diesel for a while tbh.
Not sure how long I will keep it - seems to do the job of a cheap car for the time being, 2 years I had it penned for...see how many miles I can stick on it.
Great shedding...reading along with threads like this as I'm firmly in the "don't like being sat around on my arse while the wife has the car" camp, keeping my eye out for something that's cheap and can fit golf clubs in the back! From the first post I was getting ideas of strapping them to the roof rack!

Ha! Yep this is a stop gap car, but genuinely ticking all the boxes still at the moment, apart from being cool The MINI had to go in end, didn't loose much on it tbh - carrying all my work gear around the UK at times the MINI got a little tiresome, this Vectra is massive and such a good cruiser.

Easily fit clubs in a R50 Mini......with the seats down.
Locking nut replaced, sheer brute force from the garage, don't think anyone will be nicking Vectra wheels anytime soon, now I have standard nuts!
Also, had my front foglight "bonged" out, so, garage fitted it while it was up in the air (lazy I know) same side as the mashed locking nut so made sense, saves me crawling around on my back.
Cornwall next week, down to Tintagel and Bodmin area - see how we go, economy trip let's see what we can get out of this old dog mpg wise!

Best thing to do with a shed is to replace the locking wheel nuts with standard ones. Nothing but trouble, you either lose the key or they are done up so tight you cannot get them off.Joey Deacon said:

Yeah, something I've always done now on all my cars, not even on the sheds, more hassle than they are worth!757 said:

Did you get a decent MPG after. Also, had my front foglight "bonged" out, so, garage fitted it while it was up in the air (lazy I know) same side as the mashed locking nut so made sense, saves me crawling around on my back.

Sounds like I have a dying wheel bearing now too - so it's in the garage tomorrow for a look, jacked it up and had a wobble myself on the offending wheel when I returned and it is noisy on rotation...so lets see what my garage says.
Sounded like a Chinook helicopter blasting up the M5!!
133,000 miles now on the old Veccy, apart from the rumbly wheel bearing all been business as usual.
Being used as a heavy lifting machine this weekend by my dad...he never got the idea of me having a shed to run, but seems quite happy now he can use it to load up for his countless tip runs without a care in the world, of course the Vectra takes it in its stride, with the seats down it has mammoth loading bay!!

I have similar conversations with my brother, he wont drive an "older" car yet is happy to use mine when he needs a tip run.
