On consultation with the owner it was decided to get his bonnet to fit properly then paint it and put it in to storage in case it might be needed in the future.
Despite many spacers on the front the bonnet was tight on the baulkhead and overlapping on the cills .
It was trimmed by up to 1/4" in places and some spacers removed .

An acceptable gap was achieved .
A trip down to Cornwall in the new year for the new alloy bonnet from a trusted supplier, and another trip to collect an alloy hardtop .
It's preferable to collect large items direct from suppliers as it's very often ,cheaper and less chance of damage and therefore more time and cost effective.

With the original bonnet now sorted it was removed and the front of the car stripped in preparation for modifications for racing .

What period are you going for, pre or post ‘63?
I have just asked Peter the guy building it and it's going to be post 63 ,club 100 , appendix K .
If that makes sense !
Lots of contradictory rules ! Lots of areas open to interpretation and seemingly areas that many ignore.

I only do the internet stuff for the builder Peter , I do some research for bits and later tech stuff . I have known the builder for 30+ years ,back from the days when I marshalled and attended him at a very spectacular accident .
All this has led me to spending the last couple of days reading FIA appendix K regs and finding and downloading the
original 1963 RAC homologation paperwork for the E type .
My reading next week is the 2022 Motorsport UK yearbook ( Bluebook)
It's handy to have this sort of paperwork if only as a base reference. Some of the race series have slight variations on the base regs but the general rule seems to be if it was a period modification then it would be accepted now .

Yep makes sense thanks. Need to apply for FIA papers for my Vette this month or so and know they’ll moan about something!
Series scrutineers are normally pretty helpful and often willing to do inspections and give guidance. Most of the organising clubs have contact details for local scrutes ,failing that a call to Motorsport UK will get you the information of local officials as will a scan through the latest Motorsport yearbook.

More cleaning up and this was discovered on the edge of the rear deck . Caused by water trapped in the wood strip fitted under it .
Lots of time to be taken to weld it up without causing any distortion.

Lovely!

Enjoying the updates.
Good !
It's a look behind the scenes of a workshop at the smaller end of the market . They do great work and have some fabulous vehicles through the doors . A GT40 is due in the spring and a fabulous El Camino is due shortly for some upgrades .
If I was more able bodied and mobile I would be helping out at the workshop in some capacity rather than tapping away on a screen .
