Not sure

I'm getting used to them. I'll give it a few weeks and see how I feel.

Fingers crossed.

Ti is decent bling.

I read somewhere - I think from slippy but cant be sure - about the importance of getting the right bolts for stuff like bucket seats. The bolts that came with the seats looked like cheese. So I feel better about my powerfully built bottom being held in with some Ti bolts. They are teeny tiny so they need to be really strong. Some of my friends had trouble getting into the Pole Positions. I cant see those people having a chance of fitting into these buckets.

Seat out

Found one of the bolt heads pretty chewed up and the standard bit didn't fit. I tried an assortment of different bits and I felt lucky to get it out. New bolts will be ordered.

Sourced these Titanium equivalents which should fit fine. Simply m10x25mm with 1.5 thread pitch. I didn't go for simple hex tops as the access isn't great for a traditional hex socket - although they might have fit fine. These seemed the best compromise to me.

So I can fit the seats now but I need to finish off the ignition switch first.

Trying this one for size. The Pole Positions are being donated to a different car.

How’s it fitting?
Not great

Finally got the car all back together and spent some time just sitting in it. Decided I don't like the seat or seat position. Basically I'm far too high and the steering wheel feels too low. My knees are almost wedged to the bottom of the steering wheel - which is made worse by the massive seat wings which prevent them separating and moving to either side of the wheel. Got a pic to try to explain but it's not great.

So not sure what to do next. I jumped in my other 996 which has standard 997 seats and it feels so much better. So I could do that which is easy enough.

Or I could think about different seat runners [or brackets or mounts] for these buckets to try to position them better or lower.

Or I could borrow a bucket seat mount from my 986 and see if this improves things. It has BBI hardware and the Pole Positions which were in this car - shown below. You can see this offers a lot of options.

Currently loving the setup in my 986. Previously this had some standard 986 seats and then more recently 987 seats but both gave me not quite enough leg room. I'm not sure if the love is because it's the Pole Positions I love or the seat mounting position or a combo of the 2.

MOT Passed

I'd forgotten how stiff the car is. Been around 5 months since I last drove the car or maybe even 6.

Looking at the side mounts I could drill some holes lower down. Currently only have 2 holes which I'm using. Or I could bolt some different side mounts to the runners. Will investigate.

Little update

Not used the car since the MOT. Tried to use it a couple of weeks ago and the alternator wasn't charging. Being an idiot I still tried to drive the car and it died. The battery meter on the dash got below 10v and the lcd display on dash was almost too dim to see before it cut out.

So I decided to take the alternator off my other 996 and put it on this one. Job done and the car is now working again. A few pics....

Decided to put the Recaros in my other car. I have not yet tried the SPG XL in this car using the mounts or runners the car came with. These have no adjustment on the side so just one set of holes. Therefore the seat only goes on in one position. You can clearly see they put the seat higher and raked much further backwards than how I had my others. Will see how this feels.

Bought this for a trial fit

It's quite heavy

Do I really need a big square plate like this if it is bolting onto a [very] sturdy steel floor?

WOW as if that's the only position available with those mounts! eek Look like they were designed by one of the 'Gangster Lean One Hand On The Wheel at 12 O'Clock' throbbers.
