Tyre pressures

I think I've decided 32F 36R is just about right

Headlight alignment

This is way off - I might have a go at this myself or take it to my MOT guy

Bucket seat mount

A friend of mine is going to attempt to fab some mounts to the exact spec I need
So I will use the loose parts I have
I will bolt this together in the car exactly as I want it
then deliver this to my friend so he can fab an exact copy
This will then be good for me in driver side
And I can use whatever for passenger side - not important

So I think the saga with seats and seat mounts is over. I've finally settled on a configuration I like. The bbi mounts and runners are my preferred setup but I only have 1 pair. So what I'm doing is using the bbi setup on the drivers side in both my cars. Then I'm using the other setup on the passenger sides.

I quite like the Corbeau seat. It is very supportive side to side without being too aggressive in the shoulders. The Recaro SPG has too much going on in the shoulders for Me. Now that I've got the angle or rake at a more sensible level it feels quite comfy. My legs are pressed in very tight due to the high side bolsters. So it is a little fight to get onto the clutch pedal but once in gear you feel as snug as a bug in a rug. So yes for now this will be the setup.

I'm pretty sure some of my larger friends might have trouble getting into the car now or rather getting their behind into the passenger seat. But I don't think that's my problem.

Clutch pedal is now playing up. Pedal goes quite low before you feel any resistance and therefore the biting point is getting lower and lower. I'm hoping this is just the slave cylinder as I already have one here in my stock pile of spares.

I have a BBi seat mount kit (1 seat) available if you want to make a pair up for one of your cars.
The Cobra Nogaros use their own bespoke side and floor mount arrangement so it’s surplus to requirements.
PM me if you’re interested.

I did try to make my own floor mount arrangement using this floor plate. But without sliders I cant see how it works. I'd need my seat much further back - than it is here - which means the side mounts and the seat would cover the rear most floor bolts and therefore I just dont understand how you would assemble all of this off the car and then bolt to the floor. I plan to discuss it with my mate who is a metal worker to see if he has any ideas. Also I think these full sized floor plates add a lot of weight and if you dont use a harness with crotch strap I'd say it is just not necessary. I'd be interested to see this Cobra arrangement.

Yep, the kits are normally designed to utilise runners, which more often than not means the whole floor adaptor plate, runners, side mounts and seat assembly end up being waaaay too high.
Which is exactly why the BBi kit is for sale smile

I’ve not got any images of the Cobra ultra-low side mounts/floor adaptors, but I’ll see if Cobra can provide anything, but failing that, the passenger seat will be coming out over the winter, at some point, and I’ll get some images then.

Fitted the engine mounts. Then decided the engine was too high so I had to remove and refit with some spacer washers. These went in between the mount and the engine to allow it to sit a bit lower. Look how tight the exhaust is here to the bumper. This is without the added spacers. I was concerned throttle body was pressing up onto roof of engine bay.

What exhaust/silencers does this have. Some aftermarket, like these cargraphic one have an adjustment for level of the tailpipe.

Yes they are aftermarket, they have RPM stamped on them. I am not necessarily bothered about the bumper gap. I am worried about the engine being too high in the engine bay. I dont want to crush any tubes or pipes or have the inlet manifold interfacing with the body shell.

The mounts I bought are these - or a similar cheaper version from eBay

And when placed side by side with the original mounts they are much slimmer without all those extra spacers or washers in the pic. I didnt know if this was due to some sagging. So at first I only used half of them. Then decided to use them all.

Also fitting had the added problem that these use a big bolt through the mount. Compared to the standard mounts which have a captured bolt so you just have the thread poking down which is solid and can't spin. So when tightening from underneath - and then loosening again to refit - the top can spin. As a one man mechanic it's not possible to hold both ends so I had to use a spanner wedged in the engine bay for the top side. Even if just spinning the nut with your fingers there is zero resistance.

I fitted the new clutch slave cylinder but had some problems with my easy bleed kit. Hopefully I know why now and should be able to get this finished. I didn't like the look of the flexi clutch pipe where it joins the slave so I've ordered a new one from OPC. I also ordered a couple more bits and pieces for the car.

How much is a column stalk unit from a dealer these days? My indicator stalk on my 996 has recently done the classic failure so I have no self cancelling. Guess I'll need a new one. Last time I replaced one on my first 996 in 2014, it was about £100, but the old 996 parts inflation seems out of control now!

There is a youtube video by a fella showing how he repaired his existing one. Took a few refinements, but it worked. Worth a go?

I wish someone would manufacture a better stalk unit... even at its best the feel of the stalks is awful.

Yeah I agree it feels rubbish. The brand pew part in my hand feels even more rubbish. The part would be half the price if they sold just the indicator side instead of the whole thing. I could have a go at repairing my busted one when it is removed. But if the little plastic bit [which snaps off] has fell out then you have nothing to glue back together. I have a 986 with a lovely indicator stalk thingy. Every time I drive that car I think I need one like this in the 996. So yes it is definitely a frivolous expense. I also need to fix the bad earth which stops the horn working so I thought while I am doing that I may as replace the indicator.
