Mud flaps are definitely going to divide opinions. Personally, if I’m going to drive a lightweight special model Impreza, I want it to be shouty, especially as it’s a summer weekend car. The contrasting mud flaps and rally spec exhaust heightens this massively and makes driving it feel special. They’re something I can take off and put the original guards back on if desired cool

Love your car and mud flaps, I wanted red on mine, but my wife wanted blue so we flipped a coin, blue it was but with pink decals, getting them fitted in a few days.

Splendid car! I'm very much in the camp of keeping special cars like yours as standard as possible but I do really like the mud flaps.

Couple of updates! Last weekend I took all the wheels off and DIY refurbished the brake calipers.

Before:

After:

I also took the opportunity to really clean the underside:

Oh, and for those that follow Pistonheads on Facebook, I'm now their cover photo for the month of December! biggrin

Nice work on the brakes.
I’m guessing it was Ben at PH that put you as the cover, he is a bit of a Subaru fan boy like us lol, he put my P1 on PH homepage / Facebook a few years back and seems to like any Subaru stuff on Insta smile

Great car, immaculate condition too!

I think we follow each other on Insta. Really need to do a thread for mine, maybe when I'm off work over Christmas.

Mine's a typeR Version 5 Limited - I'm envious of your front LSD and quicker rack! Saying that - the steering already feels pretty bloody responsive so I can only imagine what yours is like. Do you also find the brakes to be shockingly crap?! Mine does need discs and pads but even so, I've never experienced the feel changing with worn consumables before so I suspect they're just not very good.

Played with DCCD yet? I find mine extremely lively in the wet with the centre diff open, you really have to be awake! But with it locked 50/50, you can hardy tell it's wet!

Check your latch on the roof vent, mine has a crack on it which I'd not noticed as it's only visible from the passenger seat, I now only have the vent open at very low speeds until I can get a metal replacement

Mine came in with Baz and Andy at BHP too.

Flaps look ace!

Yes, we do follow each other- I always enjoy seeing your updates smile

To be honest, I am no driving God and I actually find the car not as sure-footed as I'd like. I've been speaking to Simon Stanley at Chevron Motorsport (they specialise in Championship winning Imprezas and are one of the best in the business) about setting up the handling and alignment of the car properly including replacing any worn parts/bushes etc. That's my next job which will be in the New Year.

Magnificent. Makes me really miss my old turbo 2000 wagon. Mine was an odd spec, a UK car, with an imported ECU and a few STi bits on it. I suspect that is a total weapon.

Big update!

I sold this car in February earlier this year....

However, it was actually a part-exchange against an identical model. Meet my new Type RA STI Limited Version 6, number 0142/2000.

Why did I part-ex to this one? It's only on 49,000km and in the best condition I've ever seen of an old Impreza. 1 previous Japan owner and 1 previous UK owner, imported in 2022 (graded 4.5 which is super rare). bow It is all standard apart from my Group A exhaust that I took off my old one and put on this one. It also sports the rare factory optional extra, twin-blade S201 spoiler.

Here are a few random shots:

Wow, very jealous. Makes my UK Turbo look very boring and a bit rubbish.
Sadly I could never afford one of these when I was looking, but having had the Turbo since 2004 it can't be that bad a car.

What's your Instagram? I feel I need to follow the updates smile

Thank you. I used to own a humble Turbo 2000! Lovely car! But the RA STI is on steroids in comparison!

Lovely! Brings back the memories, in my early 20s I had a UK Turbo 2000 which had many select STi parts fitted such as the intercooler, inlet, seats, 16" Rays wheels and various suspension bits. Being a UK car it was cheaper to insure than a genuine STi, but of course it was never going to be quite as good as the real thing.

The new one looks immaculate, it must be one of the best on the roads. When I recall how various parts of mine were slowly dissolving at four years old it really puts it into perspective when yours is in such good condition underneath at over 20 years old.
