Another Duster

When I have traded in cars in France, the book price is the price.Dealers don’t usually even come outside to check it.As long as it has 4 wheels and can move under its own power they are happy.
Brings to mind the Carnage a Trois TGT episode Do they just assume they're all equally trashed.

Do you let the engine idle a minute or so to let the turbo run down,is this even a thing anymore? I remember doing it on a Renault 5 turbo i had years ago and I still do it..
Modern turbos are oil and water cooled and turbo charged cars have a secondary electric water pump that you can often hear running after you have turned off the engine if it's hot, this cools the turbo so there is no need to idle the engine for a minute to let the turbo cool down.ChocolateFrog said:

Just for interest, I checked how much Cazoo would give me for my 4 month old Comfort auto, 2,000 miles...they said £18850.
I paid 19250.
I try not to look because normal depreciation will return eventually and this car will be the first one I lose proper money on. I paid 19250.

When I got mine I was looking at used cars. 6/7 yr old Panda 4x4 were £7k. It really was a no brainier. I could afford a lot more expensive car but it is so good. It saves me £100+ per week over running a leased Transit Connect.
Same here. When a main dealer wanted £20k for a Skoda that was 5 years old and hadn’t been serviced during it’s first three years (or at least had zero paperwork/e records), it was time for a new auto Duster at under £20k. 3 years of low hassle motoring. Not quite as nice as more expensive kit but perfectly pleasant for the money. I previously had a Disco 4 from new (lovely car but Disco 5’s are not as nice and silly money) but once out of warranty and with it getting little use in the Covid lockdowns I was always a little worried about whether I’d be one off the handful landed with a £15k engine replacement. I sold it in the current crazy used car price era and am £10k up.Edited by Shinyfings on Sunday 10th April 14:25
A quick wash while the toddler naps, it's first by me,
Diamond cut wheels aren't for me, what ballache to properly clean.
Gave the BH Atom-Mac a try so will see how we get on with that.
I'm going to give it an initial oil change at a 1000 miles, which will be in a couple of weeks.

This is why I wanted to get some extra protection on mine.
This is a 2014 Duster, which as far as I'm aware is fundamentally the same.
2013/14 there was a change of factory - I can't remember the specifics and don't want to offend but think it was India->Romania. 2013/14 cars are potentially subject to horrific rust problems. After that, it's not a significant problem. This is a 2014 Duster, which as far as I'm aware is fundamentally the same.
Source: bought one in the past year, did unhealthy amount of research.

It wasn't to do with turbo cooling, back in the day the turbos had a pressurised oil feed that fed the bearings. Once the engine was off the turbo kept spinning (on unpressurised oil) and cooked it both gumming it up and prematurely wearing out the bearings. jrb43 said:

my Q5 lease is up in march and I too think I will look at a Duster. Q5 is a lovely car but the three year lease will have cost the same as buying a pre reg duster.Duster: Ideal for rural SW Scotland and my job travelling around farms. Sadly Arnold Clark is the nearest dealer
At the time of taking out my lease Feb 2020 (car delivered 20 March) lease was better than PCP. BUT fast forward 2 years who'd have thought used prices would be so buoyant? If only I had a crystal ball
Regarding rust IIRC it was white base dusters that rusted made near to the model launch, problem was resolved.

Just got rid of our 13 plate. Apart from the rust issues, that Dacia sorted, it was the dealer we had the issue with. We would have kept it if our circumstances hadn't changed.
Few bits we found worth doing (not sure if they are on the new ones) is rubber seal around the engine bay, under the bonnet. This kept it really clean. Ford Ka (I think) strut mount caps to keep them clean also. Hicopter tape along with bolt caps have been mentioned.
