Looks fantastic on the freshly refurbished CSLs, would make me rethink selling it if I were you.
Really need to get the 261M's on my E82 done as they're all knackered, but I've been quoted over £100 a wheel and with an imminent flat move that seems a bit steep...
Not a Yorkshireman at all; but I do understand their war cry.... 'Ow Much'?! Really need to get the 261M's on my E82 done as they're all knackered, but I've been quoted over £100 a wheel and with an imminent flat move that seems a bit steep...
£100 a corner is VERY steep unless they're straightening wheels and diamond cutting them too...
For powdercoating usually aim for c£200 a set and probably £40 on top for removal/refitting of tyres etc

£140 for shot blast and powdercoat with a top coat of wet laquer to make a really easy clean finish and I time it for a four tyre change so that I don’t pay to strip and refit 4 tyres and balancing cos I’m buying four new tyres and that’s in the cost of the tyres anyway
Well I knew £100 a corner was expensive but I didn't realise quite how expensive- I was expecting more like £70 a corner all in! Will need to have a shop around, getting all 4 done for more like £250 is much more appealing...
I am down in Bristol where everything is expensive, maybe wheel refurbs are just like pints when it comes to regional pricing.

There’s a local place that’ll powder coat wheels for £140, they do a more than accept job.£140 for shot blast and powdercoat with a top coat of wet laquer to make a really easy clean finish and I time it for a four tyre change so that I don’t pay to strip and refit 4 tyres and balancing cos I’m buying four new tyres and that’s in the cost of the tyres anyway
Wheelmania are a bit more, but do a slightly better job.

I got a set of 18s dipped and powder-coated in April 2021 for £288 including tyre removal and refitting in Basingstoke, and the Home Counties isn't generally cheap! I am down in Bristol where everything is expensive, maybe wheel refurbs are just like pints when it comes to regional pricing.

Ge generally does mine for £150 with £40 on top for the tyres etc; but for non-mates rates, it's generally as above (it's also dependent on the colour you go for)
Gave my car a quick oil change yesterday as it was getting close.
Up on stands ready
Old oil draining out unfortunately as the flow reduced, the wind decided to pick up and it blew oil splatter on the drive just the other side of rug. Whoops….just wait for my wife to notice and give me a bking.
Old filter
New Bosch filter and o-rings ready to be fitted
Chucked in 6lites of Millers oil which took it to full according to the I-drive.
It was then had a quick wash before heading down to the Cotswolds to see family in case I end up at C&M for breakfast.
Next up is rear discs and pads; there is quite a lip on the discs and there’s not much meat left on the pads. The idrive reckons there’s another 3,600 miles to go….I’m not is sure. Annoyingly my new discs, pads and sensors arrived about 15 mins after taking the car off stands. I’ll be fitting Zimmerman discs with ATE ceramic pads and an ATE sensor.
As for moving the car on soon, those plans might have been scuppered by an impending increase in my mortgage (I thought the current deal ended next summer but it’s in June). Which is massively annoying because I’d found a car I want (a lot).

You'll have to sell it...
Only an M3 will do as it's replacement
Looks lovely Sam; those wheels are spot on

I could look at your wheels all day Sam!
Drat, and that is bad news regarding your mortgage for sure...because I thought that you might have been getting closer to an E9x M3 to be honest.
Cheers Lee; they’re looking good after their recent refurb. Drat, and that is bad news regarding your mortgage for sure...because I thought that you might have been getting closer to an E9x M3 to be honest.
Yeah, it’s annoying but st happens. I was utterly convinced that it wasn’t up until next year. The joys of being a grown up I guess. When I was younger I’d have done it anyway and worried about the repercussions after.

That is an unexpected hurdle with the mortgage.
That said - you've found a good one? I look forward to the new thread very soon, you'll find a way I'm sure
Yeah it’s a PITA; younger me would have thought fk it and but the M3 anyway and worry about it after but I’m trying to be a grown up!That said - you've found a good one? I look forward to the new thread very soon, you'll find a way I'm sure

Yeah, I think I’ve found a good car. I was convinced that it was meant to me given that I have a project down the road, I’d be able to get a one way ticket there, go to site and then drive back but it looks like it’s not meant to be. Hey ho.
I had a slightly early finish today after being on site and since it wasn’t raining, I decided to replace the rear discs and pads.
Old pads are looking a bit think The car reckoned I had another 3,500 miles before the pads needed changing.
They looked even worse when I removed them; the passenger side in particular looked really shagged.
Inner face of the rear disc was pretty worn
New Zimmerman discs, ATE ceramic pads and ATE wear sensor all fitted and the CBS reset.
After it was all buttoned up, I took to for a squirm spin to start the bedding in process and make sure there was no funny noises etc and it was all good.

Fair play for cracking on and sorting. Serious question. Having never done my own discs and pads, how easy is the job, talking as an utter amateur? Any special tools needed, does it involve much swearing, etc etc? Not that I'll need them doing for sometime mind. Got the guy refurbing the alloys to have a gander around them with wheels off, he said discs barely worn in, and about 8mm all round on the pads. The fronts are a piece of cake, the rears can be a bit more of a sod if there is a deep groove from the handbrake shoes. Luckily my rear brakes had been removed on September when the rear bearings were done so it was dead easy. The ones on my wife’s old 1258 were sods and I had to fiddle with the adjusters which are a bit awkward to access through the wheel bolt holes. A piston wind back tool makes it a bit easier (mine was cheap from Amazon). Other than that it’s a 7mm Allen key and a socket set.
