Great work.
Interesting to see if you can feel any difference in the way it rides now.
I have found that even when like you things don’t seem to worn a refresh does make a difference.
TBH I have only driven the car once so not sure I would be able to tell any difference but as you say a refresh and new suspension parts should give a nice improvement over the 11 year old units that were on the car .Interesting to see if you can feel any difference in the way it rides now.

Next on the list of parts to change was the Hub uprights as i found that there was a little play in the left hand side top ball joint so both sides were changed for new units .
New units installed .
And then installed back on the car .
The Swivel hubs seem to be in good condition still but i may look at changing them over for new units at some point but just need to get the car finished now and start to drive the bloody thing .

Next up on the list was to look in to the brakes on the car .
The stock Megane front brake set up uses a 4 pot Brembo calliper and 340mm vented discs .
After looking at what was available as an upgrade the go to option is to install a larger front discs set up so after some reading i managed to pick up a nearly new set of Godspeed 355mm two part discs and mounting brackets .
Old stock disc removed .
New Godspeed 355mm front disc .
Old front brake disc vs new Godspeed disc .
I also got some Puretrack titanium front brake shims that should help reduce heat transfer from the pads and disc into the calliper and fluid .
New Godspeed front disc installed .
Then it was on to what front pad set up to run on the car .
I have used Pagid RLS29 in the past and loved them and have also used the EDC RPX pads and again there were amazing .
After taking to Kev from Kam racing i ordered a set of Winmax W6.5 that will give good cold bite but also great performance when there is some heat in them . The only down side is that they are a little hard on the discs but you cant have everything .

The pads that were removed were some PBS Pro race units that i will keep as back ups .
Old vs new .
Then it was on to installing the titanium shims .
Then installing the pads .
That was the front set up done and then it was on to the rear .
Some nearly new Godspeed rear discs were ordered and installed .
For the rear pads Kev recommended running the Winmax W5 units to balance out the W6.5 at the front .
The rear pads were PBS Pro race units that were getting a little low so needed to be changed out .
Old vs new .
Then all installed .
Then on to the last part flushing the brake fluid and installing some new Castrol SRF racing brake fluid .

Snap, over xmas I had ordered some titanium shims for my Fiesta running Megane Brembos. Got them from Puretrack also.
Not sure i'll ever really know if they make a difference, but i'd like to think so.
I get the science behind them and have been told that they are a good investment from people who track there Meganes and if nothing else I can say the car has some titanium parts on it Not sure i'll ever really know if they make a difference, but i'd like to think so.

There are flaps infront of the wheels. If you remove them, it seriously helps the brake cooling on track.
Loving the updates!
Ok thanks for the information I will take a look .Loving the updates!
Looking folward to seeing what the Winmax pads are like as I have never tried them but have heard good things about them so hopefully they will be worth the money .

The winmax pads are epic, really good stopping power and last very well too so work out better value than cheaper pads! I now run the Winmax W5 on everything front and rear
Thanks for your thoughts on them and im running W5 on the rear but have gone for the more aggressive W6.5 up front so im very excited to see how they feel / perform .Ben Lowden said:
Love the attention to detail on this thread, thank you! Made me go and have a look at my dephaser seal – all fine but good to know they can be prone to leaking
No problem and it was only when i noticed some oil collection around the arear that i looked in to if it was the Dephaser seal .Easy job and not a lot of money to get the fix done for me .

I spotted this today as well .First one I have seen for sale and only 18 Blue cups in the uk so I'm still in the elite club
Another update to finish off the brake upgrades .
With the new larger front discs and the pad upgrades the last thing to look at was the brake cooling .
In the past i have run brake cooling guides but found a Puretrack brake ducting kit .
The front scoops attach to the lower bumper and then feed direct to the discs with piping .
To make the install much more easy i removed the front bumper and set about attaching the kit .

Then it was on to attaching the pipework with some good old fashioned cable ties not pretty but effective and i also added some braided brake lines to the front and rear .
This should give some extra cooling to the discs to help with any heat issues .

Where are the magic gold ones from? I need to get a new magnetic one for the swift as it seems the one in it and has been for 5 years is starting to round a bit
Got my one from this place and allways fit them to my cars .https://www.advantage-motorsport.co.uk/car-prep/oi...
Had a small set back with the car as after the brake upgrade was done the next day there was a small puddle of liquid under the right rear of the car .
After inspection i found out this was coming from the piston seal on the rear right calliper .
They were stiff when i pushed the piston back in to the calliper and this has either split the seal or there is a problem with the piston .
I did look at a rebuild kit but a new calliper was not that much more money so i went for a new unit and also a new unit for the rear left hand side .
The only problem was that it was not Yellow so some paint was ordered and i was quite happy that my GCSE D grade in are came in handy
Then the two new callipers were install on the car and the problem fixed .

Great work as always...
How many miles have you done and, more importantly... when is the first big shakedown!?
I am ashamed to say i have only done massive 143 miles from last May as i have only driven the car once and that was picking the thing up .How many miles have you done and, more importantly... when is the first big shakedown!?
I think im just about there with my endless fiddling and the car is booked in for a remap at RS tuning then a corner weighting and Geo set up at Select motor sport then she will be ready for her and my first outing .
Still got some more plans but i will wait until the winter for them or i will never drive the dam thing

Just booked this so will see you there .It was my plan to start back at Bedford so this will be a great starting point to get to know the car at a track i have driven a few times + it has lots of run off if i get things a bit wrong

Excellent news. I’m only pushing because the sooner you start driving it, the sooner you track it, the sooner you get bored of it and the sooner I can buy it off you
Or if you speak to my Mrs the sooner i drive it , the sooner i track , it the sooner i crash it .........Another update on the car and something a bit more exciting than oil and coolant changes .
The car has been up to RS Tuning for a custom remap and made a nice 306 BHP and 357 LB/FT .
The power and torque graphs are nice and flat, and the car looks to be making good power from 5000 to 6000 RPM .
The car is only running a cold air induction system , Decat and exhaust system and an Airtec intercooler but is still on the stock OEM turbo so I’m happy with the numbers the car is running .

Ah that's awesome. Can't wait.
We've rented a garage, so we can use that as a focal point for the day
My brother was due to attend, but unfortunately his ST was nicked a couple of weeks ago.
It will be my first track day in well over a year after my little shunt at Goodwood so may be a little rusty and i dont know the car yet as i have only driven it once so i have my excuses all ready lined up We've rented a garage, so we can use that as a focal point for the day
My brother was due to attend, but unfortunately his ST was nicked a couple of weeks ago.
I might see if there are any garage spaces left or might just have base camp in the car park as normal .
Yeah the little Fiestas do seem to get nicked an awful lot and that was one worry when i had my one .
