Nothing like as detailed as your thread - I didn't build it, Lotus did, I haven't modified it (it's high maintenance enough already) and I have a bit of a love hate relationship with it.

It's got a few mentions over the years and PH'rs have spotted it in other Readers Cars threads that I have done - fundamentally it story to tell - one that I'm happy to share but it got labeled a "replica" with some justification in some circles.

You can make your mind up by reading Happy Birthday Elsie - Clicky
Read and enjoyed! Replica my arse, its no more a replica than any other lotus carlton. Cool car and i for one would read more on your experiences with it!

The oil debate is fascinating to me, for example, the Jag project 7/8 cars, with 500+bhp, supercharged V8 engines, run on 0w-20 oil. I'd love one or the other to be right, thick or thin, but that just doesn't seem the case.

there is no silver bullet in my experience unless you use the car in only controlled conditions. i.e. a out and out race car will likely use mono grade, but at that point your into static warming and all manner or pratting about. the best bet really is to work with the manufacturer spec and then adjust it for your own use case and climate IMO

I believe one of the advantages of running a Ester Synthetic, is it more stable and doesn't loose shear strength like a Synthetic blend does, due to the fact it doesn't have fillers/additives in to cause a drop with temperature.

never ending wormhole dude, its more resistant to temperature shearing to some degree but your still affected by fuel dilution and contamination.

Just caught up on the thread again and enjoyed the nerding out!

Sounds like a good trip and it’s good to see that issues like the gear cable appear to have been put to bed.
