I don't think I ever posted a photo of my new AMG grille, so here it is.
How much was the grille mate? Mine could do with replacing as it has a broken bracket and doesn't sit quite right.

Gave it a quick clean over the weekend, was a warm day!

Yeah, I had the same problem with the brackets being broken when I bought the car, looks like a design fault which I rectified by fitting larger washers which a mate made for me in stainless steel.

AMG grille was from MB for just over £400 (from memory a 20% discount)

Very wise. Seems it's the bolts that caused the issue as one of mine is sheared meaning it'll need removing first.

I shall keep that grille in mind as we're in the process of selling our house so I'll have to put a new grill on the back burner. For now haha

As most have you have gathered from this thread, I like a clean car and I like detailing products, so I'll make some recommendations here and there.

Well this stuff has impressed me. We've had carnauba waxes, various different sealants and now ceramic is the buzz word. Well I like Car-Chem products, they're inexpensive and the fact that they make their own products (and many other brands products) makes them ok in my eyes. This stuff is bloody great though!

Their 1900:1 shampoo is really good but I'm genuinely impressed with the beading this has produced, that's literally a wash, then rinsed off.

Comes up alright!

Have you found anything to shine this bit up ?

I haven't. I'm not sure it would come up with a shine without some serious work, probably some kind of dremmel type polishing.

I'd imagine it would look better cleaned up and painted potentially.

Shirley you can't be serious? biglaugh

That's an APC right? I haven't actually even tried cleaning that part of the engine I will admit as it's only stood out from that angle haha. I might have a go next time I've got the bonnet up.

It’s a highly concentrated degreaser that can be used as an APC at very low dilutions.

Those fins are the back of the engine ECU which has built-in ignition amplifiers.

It's waterproof but don't go too crazy on it.

This is one of the things I like on PH, there's always someone around with knowledge and good advice. Many thanks mws.

It’s also the component that can fail and cost a hefty sum to remedy. I think that it gets very hot, being sat on top of the middle of the bank of Veees.

Some good advice, thank you! smile

To be fair looking at it's design I was assuming it was some kind of heatsink.

Also when it comes to cleaning engine bays, I'm really careful and don't generally use water just spray on products and microfibre cloths.

As for things that break that cost lots, that is this car in a nutshell haha

Drove the CL down to the new house alongside my Megane. Managed to be averaging about 16mpg which is impressively low! haha

Popped out to the local Shell station today with a quick visit to the local docks along the River Severn for a few photos.

Quite an interesting place and more interesting than my driveway!

I had a problem with mine recently, probably my own fault and due to lack of use this summer. (the CL is my winter car). Had to get a new one of these due to water ingress but was less costly than I thought it would be.

Glad it wasn't too pricey. My CL is more a fair weather car but sits outside but I've not had any water issues. Only time I see a little on the inside is when I'm washing and aim the hose up slightly!

I was told that it's a design fault as water drips onto the unit when the door is opened and closed in wet weather. The reason I think it may have been my fault is that I allowed the rear battery to go almost flat which prevented the windows going back to fully closed when the door was opened and closed; and then on the way to get a new battery the windows were slightly open and I was playing with all the switches trying to get them closed. Moral of the story is don't let the battery go flat.

It's funny you mention batteries. I had an E320cdi about three or four years ago and to be fair it was probably the best car I've owned as an overall car. But it had a parasitic battery drain so after 7-10 days of no use it would be dead. Killed at least one battery jumping it and driving it etc.

In the end I used a C-Tek to keep it topped up and kept the habit with the S Class that followed and the CL. So it's currently sitting out there plugged into a C-Tek because I'm so mindful of the electrics on these cars.

Annoying about how those windows dripping onto the electric switches though. The S had an annoyingly similar issue with the boot whereby the open boot would drip down the boot arm directly onto the amplifier! Mine of course went wrong and ended up needing a refurb.
