I admire your dedication to this project - it's been bloody cold out (up here in the N/W anyway) the past few days!!!

First dry weekend in about a month, so managed to get the truck out of the garage to jet wash under the rear prior to more paint and under seal.

It’s looking tatty, but the metal is solid and it started first time. Even got the idle down to a sensible level!

Also dropped the rear diff and fitted the bushing washers. Stance is now correct (although it looks off due to flat tyre and uneven surface.

There’s not much clearance between the moustache bar and the exhaust, but I think the cheery bomb may have to go as it’s bloody noisy!

Damn it!

Clipped the garage door while getting the truck out and snapped a couple of clips on the headlight trim.

The plastic appears very similar to model kits, so I’m hoping that glue will work.

Any tips on sourcing compatible plastic and glue to allow me to add layers across the break to add strength?

Thanks.

Hoping the glue dries before my other half gets home.

Finally starting to address the “little jobs” that will be MOT fails. Like no horn.

Turns out the Justy wheel had a lot of corrosion inside.

Cleaned and painted, we have beeps again.

Good to see you're thinking about MOT stuff. Any more little jobs to do?

The paint is Hammerite.

“Little Jobs” include a brake bleed, order new number plates, gaffer tape over the passenger door (I have a replacement waiting!) and make a temporary fuel tank.

Engine needs mixture and timing set properly.

There are also a couple of other patches underneath that need welding - I think they were missed due to poor light and access. Nothing serious.

Absolute mess of fuel pump removed.

Amazingly it still works. Probably well protected by three decades of waxoil and sheep muck.

Cleaning up bracket, replacing filter and ready to connect temporary outboard motor tank!

It moves!!

As a project manager, I do love hitting a deadline.

I wanted the Brat to be assembled and mobile for today, so I could go for a birthday drive.

There’s still work to do for MOT, but it managed half a mile up a closed road for its first test. Nothing fell off and no stalling!

Inspired to get it ticked and painted now.

Thanks for the comments all!

Back underneath with final reattachment of front suspension parts and front hand brake cables.

Managed to damage the thread on the ball joints, but all sorted with a little filing.

Bike rack brackets now welded into the load bay. Big moment psychologically as I’ve not put torch to car myself before (all previous welding done by a professional).

Looks ok from 2 meters. Strong enough to hold the bikes. Happy with that!

Another big gap as work and family took me to the States for much of April. Great to meet other Subaru enthusiasts over there.

Dry bank holiday has let me get the truck out and paint inside the wheel arch cavities, and make a start on the bed.

Radiator brushes from Middle of Lidl have made this possible, and I’m very pleased to get protection inside the voids. Lanogaurd next.

Before you hit it with the Lanogard/Waxoyl paint the car first. Also, for the load bay by mate swears by truck bed liner - you mix the paint colour in with it and spray on. Tough as a brick sthouse, looks great too - he uses it in the arches and underside of all his restorations
