AIUI, it's cost you £13K+ for about 10,000 miles. (so, significantly lower depreciation than a Taycan...)

WBAC are only offering ~£8K for a runner, but will doubtless chip you down further for the bumper scuffs, etc..

If you can get £5K+ for it as a non-runner, I'd take it and move on. A "new" engine is just rolling the dice one more time, but as we know, the JLR dice are loaded.

There seems to be quite a few broken ones on ebay, here's two of them.

If these were worth a lot in parts, wouldn’t they be being parted out?

With engine failures being quite common on these, I would think the market for used parts (other than engines) will be over supplied.

I've got what's left of the engine out this evening.

There's loads of replies about what I should do moving forward. I've got a plan. I've found an engine from 2019 F-Pace with 30k miles on. It's 3k so it's the best priced engine I've seen, especially when you take into account the mileage. What really sweetens the deal is this comes with the gearbox (8 speed auto, same as mine), all ancillaries, turbo, even the front diff so I'll have a load of bits to sell on. I've been sent a video of the engine running before it was removed, it sounded as good as a diesel can.

I don't want to count my chickens before it's in my possession. I've got someone going up to collect it for me first thing in the morning tomorrow. Getting that lot into my garage is going to be quite the task as I've got a broken Jaguar in the way!

Providing it has no oil leaks and shows no signs of having been opened up before, I'm leaning towards leaving it all alone, I won't touch the chains, I'll just put it in the hole as is and live happily ever after.

It could be back up and running by the end of the weekend.

Sounds like the best plan going forward to me, might be worth keeping some spares off your old one before selling whatever you can to recoup costs though.

Sounds really cheap for what you're getting, research the seller and be very careful about at what stage you pay for this.

Feel for you OP with the most recent failure after the time, work and money that went into getting the last engine working.

Hopefully the new engine will work out, although given your issues I’d be tempted to punt it on and sacrifice the modern interior for something less likely to st itself (I will admit to being an automotive dinosaur and happy trucking about in older cars).

My own view, for what it's worth is once a money pit always a money pit.

I would get rid as soon as it's fitted and working and go and buy a replacement which does not have a grenade engine...

Good luck whichever way you go..

I would agree. My F30 330i is like that. I've got BMW extended warranty on it. Every time I find myself thinking that there can't be much left to go wrong, as it has so many new bits, something else breaks. Sometimes even one of the new replacement parts breaks. It's just a 'Friday car' in the old way of saying things, although I don't think robots struggle on Fridays. A bad car is a bad car.

Although in this case, it seems to be a bad engine rather than a bad car. Maybe a different engine will sort the problem. Having said that, it's a JLR engine.....

There's no way on Gods green earth I'd put up with this in my garage for much longer, but I don't have the patience, bravery, space or technical ability to limit the overall costs by doing this much of it myself. I hate this bloody car, and it's not even mine, but have nothing but admiration for the immense effort you've put in, not to mention the ability you possess.

Very much hope your perseverance ends up letting you come out of this okay, whatever you decide to do. You deserve it just for the entertainment value alone!
