Really sorry to see, however it looks like the car did its job of keeping you and the your zone un-crumpled.

Look after yourself!

Shame to see this , especially after all the work. Only thing that matters though is you came out ok .

I'd be tempted to see what you can buy it back from the insurance for , especially with all the bits you have added

The old V6 is now in pieces, serving as a dummy engine, may yet see if it can be rebuilt though.

Really sorry to see this, I have been following this thread keenly since it started. Must be an awful feeling after all that work. But glad you are ok, and I hope all the insurance works out for you and you come away whole.

Ugh! What a shame! Really enjoyed this thread but at least all involved are safe and sound.

In for the next chapter... V10 Westy anyone?

Well sadly this thread will now come to an end. Back on Friday 1st, just 2 days after getting it all dialled in I was involved in an accident up near tyndrum. I'll not go into too much detail as the claim is ongoing but a 3rd party was charged with careless driving at the scene.

Am pretty certain, as are my insurance (who've been hopeless) that it will be written off. The front corner has been ripped off, there's chassis damage and most of the body panels have been damaged. Luckily there were no injuries barring a bit of soreness and a few bruises. Car definitely came off worse.

Sorry to hear that, but glad you are ok.

I suspect you are right with the write off, I have seen cars with similar damage rebuilt, but outside or insurance companies. The labour bill to repair that will be massive.

The car, as expected, has been written off. After a bit of back-and-to we've came to an agreement on value, them messing up on the agreed value has worked slightly in my favour. I've had word that it looks like the 3rd party insurer has accepted liability.

Salvage buy-back value is a smidgen under 8k. Having crunched the numbers it's too much a risk at that without having a close look and as it's at copart that's not going to happen. I did get a quote for replacement chassis, bodywork, wishbones and uprights from the new Westfield company and it came in at nearly £10k eek. I wouldn't buy anything other than the chassis from them anyway but was interested to get an idea.

So as it stands I think I've drawn a line and will move on to something else. But the other part of me wants to keep an eye on the copart auction when it goes live as I'd be amazed in the current climate if it got anywhere near 8k.

I've just seen this. Bugger.

Glad you're ok though. Looking forward to what's next, whether its from parts of this car or something new.

I'll be stunned if it gets anywhere near £8k. Lots of people used to struggle to sell decent spec cars at much above £13k a few years ago.

I agree. With the slowdown in the market there's some nice cars out there for 10-14k.

I think worse case scenario I think I could rebuild it for 10k even with a few upgrades. But the salvage price would need to be nearer 5k for me. Because at the end of the day it's always going to have the cat S stigma should it ever be sold on.

So sorry to read this Steve having kept up on the WSCC site and on here. I concur that they will struggle to get that especially as Westfield parts are now so expensive.

If it was to come up at the right money, there are a lot of decent cars around that could be bought and the bits transferred into that one and sell anything else on.

A sad end but at least you walked away relativly unharmed.

No it's not me, the offer from the insurer was too rich for me. The guy rebuilding it made contact earlier in the week. Really pleased that it's going back on the road.

Did you ask what he paid for the salvage - be interesting to know if the insurance co did over value it?

No it was the company (MNR) that reached out rather than the new owner. I never asked to be fair. I'm assuming that if it goes unsold at cooart you can submit offers? I read in the FB post above they were going for engine start next week so looks like that's escaped any damage. I am shocked there was no chassis damage at the rear too as it came down very hard on the nearside rear wheel, enough to shatter the wheel. But they reckon it was only about 1mm out across the rear axle
